Flight 213 was a domestic scheduled flight operated by Pakistani airline Bhoja Air. On 20 April 2012, the Boeing 737-200 aircraft operating the flight crashed in bad weather during its approach to Benazir Bhutto International Airport, Islamabad. The flight took off from Jinnah International Airport, Karachi with 118 passengers and nine crew on board and crashed 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) short of its destination, killing all on board.
Aircraft
The accident aircraft was a Boeing 737-200, registration AP-BKC,[1] msn 23167. The aircraft had first flown on 13 December 1984 and had served with British Airways and Comair.[2] The aircraft had been purchased from Shaheen Air, which had retired it as unairworthy.[3]
Accident
The aircraft was operating a domestic scheduled flight from Jinnah International Airport, Karachi to Benazir Bhutto International Airport, Islamabad, which was the airline's inaugural flight on this route. There were nine crew and 118 passengers on board.[1] The flight departed from Karachi at 17:00 local time (12:00 UTC) and was due to land at Islamabad at 18:50 (13:50 UTC). At 18:40,[3] the aircraft crashed 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) short of its destination,[1] near the village of Hussain Abad. Eyewitnesses stated that the aircraft was on fire before it crashed.[3] All 127 people on board were killed.[4] The weather at the time was reported as raining heavily.[5][6] As the crash occurred in a residential area, there are fears of further casualties on the ground.[7]
