In the early stage, when Korean Wikipedia's top-level domain was still "com", Korean Wikipedia could not handle Korean alphabet, [[Hangul|Hangul]], and as a result, not function for the end users, although [[MediaWiki|MediaWiki]] was launched.

Korean Wikipedia's prospect became even more optimistic after the momentum accelerated by the following substantial coverage by Korean media.

There are two major standards in the Korean language, the South Korea standard, and the North Korea standard. North Koreans are underrepresented on the Korean Wikipedia, due to [[Censorship in North Korea|North Korean censorship]] of the [[Internet in North Korea]]. Therefore, most users of the Korean Wikipedia are South Koreans and most articles are written in the South Korean style.
