Best list format?

I've seen very good list formats and very bad list formats. In general, I believe the best is a sortable table - I don't like bulleted lists, because they are not sortable and just don't look great to me. I've been working on reformatting hospital lists in New England, and have completed all but one (Completed: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island; Incomplete: Vermont). I put name first, then parent company, town, county, emergency department with trauma level, open-closed dates, and a column for notes such as status and type. Sometimes I also include a column for EMS regions where applicable. And because in the "Notes" column the first word is the status of the hospital (i.e. Active, Closed, Succeeded), I list the defunct hospitals with the active ones as there is now a way to sort by status. (Please - if at this point you've read something objectionable, let me know).

Today I took a peek at the New York State list and was pleased with what I saw - aside from the defunct hospitals and certain types of hospitals being in separate tables. However, for a state as large as New York, and other bigger states surely, this seems to make sense. I also liked that the column for coordinates allows for the GeoGroup template to be used to plot everything out.

Anyway, long story short, I'm looking for input on hospital list formats - if enough people share their thoughts, maybe we can come up with a format that can be used everywhere, if not just across similar jurisdictions. I do not know the answer to your question, and I also do not know exactly where to go to get the best answer, but I suggest asking at Wikipedia:WikiProject Lists, Help:Lists, and maybe going to WP:Featured articles and asking for a best practice recommendation.

Eventually if you want to talk about global formats, check in at d:Wikidata:WikiProject Hospitals. Most of Wikidata has been in limbo for years as people make decisions about exporting structured data lists of this kind to various language versions of Wikipedia, but even so, Wikidata will probably be the next-generation solution for scaling this to all hospitals, everywhere, in every language version of Wikipedia.

For the design decisions about formatting lists, I am going to refer you to chat with the crowd. If you ever want to talk about data modelling hospitals in Wikipedia or Wikidata then I would chat with you about that. Thanks and update me when you have progress or something to show. A note of caution: given how matters stand on en.wiki as summarised at Wikipedia:Wikidata#Appropriate usage in articles, Wikidata may not ever be the next-generation solution for scaling this to all hospitals, everywhere, in every language version of Wikipedia. Thank you so much for your guidance! I haven't explored Wikidata much yet, but that is likely one of the next things I'll start digging into to learn more. Certainly if I start getting into data modelling it would be great to have your input. It sounds like it has a lot of potential, and my tendency to hyperfixate on data collection (see: my many, many infobox edits) will probably lend itself well to that.
