Apple Card (stylized "Card") is a credit card developed by Apple Inc., designed primarily to be used with Apple Pay on Apple devices such as an iPhone or Apple Watch. It will be available in the United States at launch in the summer of 2019.
Apple Card was announced at an Apple Special Event on March 25, 2019, which focused on new services provided by Apple.[1][2]
Features
Apple Card does not include late, cash advance, international, overdraft, or annual credit card fees, except for applicable interest charges when carrying a balance and any interchange fees that are normally charged to the vendor.[3]
Reward program
The card features a 2% "Daily Cash" cash-back reward program for every purchase done using Apple Pay, 3% for any purchase from Apple (in store or the App Store), and 1% when using the physical card anywhere else.[4] Rewards accrue and are paid out daily via Apple Pay Cash inside of Apple Wallet.[5]
Privacy
A unique permanent card number is created for each device and is stored in the device's secure element, a special security chip used by Apple Pay. Every purchase generates a one-time "dynamic security code", authorized with Face ID or Touch ID.[6] Due to the Apple Card's privacy features, Apple won’t know where a customer shopped, what they bought, or how much they paid.[7]
Partnerships
Apple will partner with Goldman Sachs to provide the support of an issuing bank and Mastercard to provide the global payments network for the Apple Card.[8]
Physical card
Apple has designed a titanium Apple Card for shopping at locations where Apple Pay contactless payment is not accepted yet.[9] The card has no card number, CVV security code, expiration date, or signature printed on the card; though, if necessary, this information is available in the Apple Wallet app.[9]
