Budhwa Mangal

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Bada Mangal)

Budhwa Mangal or Bada Mangal is a several weeks long festival celebrated in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India, on every Tuesday in the Hindu month of Bhadrapada. According to local beliefs, Hanuman met Lord Rama for the first time on a Tuesday in the month of Jyeshtha. Since then it is believed that all Tuesdays of this month are auspicious. On this special day, kirtans are held in temples and bhandaras are organized for the devotees at various temples and places.

The Budhwa Mangal is also an example of the syncretic history of the city.[further explanation needed] According to historians, the wife of the third Nawab of Awadh, Mohammad Ali Shah, patronized the construction of the temple in Aliganj vicinity of Lucknow,[1] after she was blessed with a baby boy. People celebrate it by organising community feasts across city.
