The Chery Tiggo 5x (Chinese: 奇瑞瑞虎5x; pinyin: Qíruì Ruìhǔ 5x) is a subcompact crossover SUV produced by the Chinese manufacturer Chery under the Tiggo crossover product series. In China, the model also spawned an electric variant called the Chery Tiggo e, and shared the platform with the later introduced Cowin Showjet in 2019. In export markets, the vehicle is also marketed as the Chery Tiggo 4 and Chery Tiggo 3.

Overview[edit]

The Chery Tiggo 5x is the production version of the 2014 Chery Concept Beta concept car.[3]

The production model Chery Tiggo 5x was launched on the Chinese car market in the second half of 2017, positioned between the subcompact Chery Tiggo 3x and the compact Chery Tiggo 3. Much like the marketing position of the Tiggo 3x, the Tiggo 5x is the sportier version of the Tiggo 5 despite being a completely different model.[4][5]

In China, the Tiggo 5x was sold with a single engine option, a 1.5-litre inline-4 engine.[6]

An electric variant called the Tiggo e was also offered in China equipped with a 53.6 kWh battery and delivering a range of 401 km / 251 miles (NEDC), with the Tiggo e drivetrain producing 95 kW ( 127 hp ) of power, and 250 N.m / 184 lb.ft of torque. The top speed of the 2019 Chery Tiggo e is 160 km/h / 100 mph, with 0 to 50 km/h acceleration in 3.9 seconds.[7]

Facelift[edit]

2019[edit]

A facelift was launched in 2019 featuring revised front and rear end designs with the front end sharing the same family front fascia with the Chery Tiggo 8.[8]

2020[edit]

Another facelift was launched in 2020 featuring a further updated front fascia inline with the second generation Tiggo 7.

2024[edit]

At the 2024 Chery International Business Conference in Wuhu, Anhui, China in April 2024, Chery showcased an updated version of the export market Tiggo 4 with a redesigned front and rear fascia, along with a new C-pillar decoration.[9]

Markets[edit]

Indonesia[edit]

The Tiggo 5x was first introduced in Indonesia on January 2022 as the Tiggo 4 Pro.[10] It was originally scheduled to be launched in 2023, but delayed in favor of the Omoda 5.[11] The model was re-introduced with its original Tiggo 5x nameplate at the 31st Indonesia International Motor Show in February 2024, with pre-orders opened at the same time.[12] Official sales were commenced in 13 June 2024.[13] At launch, there are two variant levels available: Classic and Champion. Both models were powered by a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine mated with a CVT transmission.[14] It is locally assembled at Handal Indonesia Motor's facility in Bekasi, West Java.

Italy[edit]

DR 4.0 (previously sold as the pre-facelift DR 5.0)
Post-facelift DR 5.0

The Tiggo 5x is rebadged and sold in Italy by importer DR Automobiles as the DR 5.0. It was launched in March 2020, initially based on the first facelifted Tiggo 5x that was launched in 2019. The 5.0 is offered in a sole variant, powered by a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine, which can be also opted with the company's Thermohybrid bi-fuel (petrol/LPG) setup.[15] A turbocharged variant, powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine mated with a 6-speed manual, was added in November 2020.[16] The facelifted model was revealed at the 2021 Milano Monza Open-Air Motor Show in June 2021, adopting the styling used by the second facelifted Tiggo 5x that was launched in 2020.[17] Sales of the facelifted 5.0 were commenced in January 2022.[18]

Following the introduction of the facelifted 5.0, the pre-facelift 5.0 was renamed to the DR 4.0 in early 2022,[19] and was sold alongside the facelifted 5.0 until 2024.

Since 2023, the Tiggo 5x was also rebadged and sold by DR under the Sportequipe marque as the Sportequipe 5, which was first revealed at the 2022 Milano Monza Open-Air Motor Show in June 2022.[20] The Sportequipe 5 shares the same entire front end design as the non-Pro/Plus versions of the Chery Tiggo 8. It is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine that is available in either a petrol or the Thermohybrid bi-fuel (petrol/LPG) setup.

Mexico[edit]

The Tiggo 5x is sold in Mexico as the Chirey Tiggo 4 Pro.[21] It was launched in October 2022. It is available in two trim levels: Comfort and Premium. All models were powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine mated with a CVT transmission.[22]

Middle-East[edit]

The Tiggo 5x is sold in select Middle-Eastern markets such as Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE as the Tiggo 4 Pro since 2021. Depending on the market, it is available in four trim levels: base, Comfort, Luxury and Flagship. The base, Comfort and Luxury trims were powered by a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine mated with a CVT transmission, while the Flagship trim is powered by the turbocharged version of that same engine, mated with a 6-speed DCT.[23]

The Tiggo 5x is also rebadged and sold in Iran by Modiran Vehicle Manufacturing Company (MVM) as the MVM X55 since 2019.[24] Adopting the styling used by the first facelifted 2019 Tiggo 5x, the X55 is available in two trim levels: Excellent and Excellent Sport. Both models were powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine mated with a 6-speed DCT.[25] The facelifted model, based on the second facelifted 2020 Tiggo 5x, was made available since 2022 as the MVM X55 Pro.[26] The X55 Pro shares the same engine unit as the regular X55, albeit with a CVT transmission.[27] Both X55 and X55 Pro are locally assembled at MVM's facility in Bam, Kerman Province.

Pakistan[edit]

The Tiggo 5x was launched in Pakistan on March 2022 as the Tiggo 4 Pro, alongside the Tiggo 8 Pro.[28] It is locally assembled under license at Ghandhara Nissan's facility in Karachi. Production commenced on 31 March 2022.[29][30]

Philippines[edit]

The Tiggo 5x was launched in the Philippines on November 2019 alongside the Tiggo 2, Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 8, marking Chery's return to the Philippine market.[31] It is available in two variant levels: base and Luxury. All models were powered by a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine. Base variants were paired with either a 5-speed manual or CVT, while the Luxury variant is only available with a standard CVT transmission.[32]

The facelifted model, marketed as the Tiggo 5x Pro, was revealed at the 17th Manila International Auto Show in April 2022.[33] The Hybrid variant of the Tiggo 5x Pro, powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged 48V mild-hybrid petrol engine, was introduced at the 18th Manila International Auto Show in April 2023.[34] The entire Tiggo 5x Pro range was launched and went on sale in the Philippine market on July 2023.[35]

Russia[edit]

The Tiggo 5x was launched in Russia on February 2019 as the Tiggo 4. It is available in two variant levels: Comfort and Luxury. Both were powered by a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine.[36]

Six months after its initial launch, the Tiggo 4 received a facelift in August 2019. The facelifted model is powered by a 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine, replacing the 1.5-litre unit. The engine can be paired with either a 5-speed manual or a CVT transmission. The facelifted model is initially available in three variant levels: Start, Comfort and Techno.[37] The Cosmo variant, powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine mated with a 6-speed DCT, was added in October 2019.[38]

In August 2020, the Tiggo 4 received minor changes; the 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine was re-introduced to the lineup, along with two new variant levels, Base and Luxury. The 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated engine on the Comfort variant was replaced by the 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated unit.[39]

To commemorate Chery's 15-year existence in the Russian market, the Limited Edition model of the Tiggo 4 was made available respectively on the Techno and Cosmo variants in December 2020, with only 515 units were sold.[40] At the same time, the Start variant was dropped from the lineup.[41] In July 2021, the Tiggo 4 received two new variant levels; 1.5 Travel and 1.5T Trek.[42]

The Pro model was launched in September 2022.[43] It is initially available in four variant levels: Action, Family, Travel and Style. The Action and Family variants were powered by a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine, while the Travel and Style variants were powered by the turbocharged version of that same engine. All models were paired with a CVT transmission, with the Action variant can be also paired with an optional 5-speed manual.[44] The 1.5T Ultimate variant was added in January 2023.[45]

The regular Tiggo 4 was discontinued in July 2023.[46]

The Tiggo 4 Pro received a minor update in March 2024, which introduced an updated dashboard design and a new special edition model, the 18 Years Edition, to commemorate Chery's 18-year existence in the Russian market.[47]

South Africa[edit]

The Tiggo 5x was launched in South Africa on 24 November 2021 as the Tiggo 4 Pro, as Chery's first model during the brand's re-entry to the South African market. At launch, it is initially available in four variant levels: Urban, Comfort, Elite, and Elite SE. The Urban and Comfort variants were powered by a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine, while the Elite and Elite SE variants were powered by the turbocharged version of that same engine. Depending on the variant, transmission options includes a 5-speed manual (Urban), a 6-speed manual (Elite) and CVT (Comfort, Elite and Elite SE).[48]

The base LiT variant was added in September 2023. At launch, the LiT variant is initially available with the same 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine, paired with either a 5-speed manual or CVT, as the Urban and Comfort variants.[49]

In May 2024, the LiT variant received an option of the 1.5-litre turbocharged engine from the Elite and Elite SE variants, while the interior of the Elite and Elite SE variants received a redesigned centre console. A 6-speed DCT was added as an option for the turbocharged versions.[50]

South America[edit]

The Tiggo 5x is sold in select South American markets except Brazil as the Tiggo 4. It was launched in Chile on April 2018,[51] Ecuador in August 2018,[52] Colombia in October 2018,[53] and Argentina in December 2020.[54]

The Tiggo 5x was introduced in Brazil at the 30th São Paulo International Motor Show in November 2018, retaining its original name.[55] Brazilian models were launched in 11 December 2018. At launch, it is available in two trim levels: T and TXS. Both models were powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged flex-fuel engine mated with a 6-speed DCT.[56] Brazilian models are locally assembled at Caoa Chery's facility in Anápolis, Goiás.[57] It received a facelift in 21 February 2020.[58] The T trim was dropped from the lineup in April 2021.[59]

The second facelift for the Brazilian model, renamed to Tiggo 5x Pro, was revealed in 17 February 2022,[60] and went on sale in the following end of that same month.[61] The second facelift introduced a CVT transmission, replacing the 6-speed DCT from the previous model year.
