The Estadio Luis "Pirata" Fuente is an association football stadium located at the seaside in Boca del Río, Veracruz, Mexico, with a capacity of 28,703. It is named in honour of Luis de la Fuente, a Mexican football star who played with C.D. Veracruz from 1943 to 1952. It was also the home of the Tiburones Rojos lit.'Red Sharks' before the team's dissolution on December 18, 2019. This stadium is also referred to as the Coloso del Fraccionamiento Virginia (lit.'Colossus of the Virginia neighborhood').

History

[edit]

The field was opened on March 17, 1967, as a new home for Club Deportivo Veracruz to play on. It was originaly named "Estadio Veracruzano". In 2019, the team ceased to exist. After the team ceased, the stadium went into abandonment until for a brief period it was used by Atlético Veracruz which played in the Liga Balompie, but early in 2021 the team moved into another stadium.

In February 2023 the government of Veracruz announced plans to remodel the stadium with the objective of modernizing it. In 2024 the remodeling began; as of November 2024 the grass has been planted.
