The HZ Holden was built from October 1977-April 1980.
The final facelift on the old HQ body was the HZ, only minor cosmetic updates, it got the egg crate grille and thicker side protection strips. The main addition was the new Radial Tuned Suspension (RTS) it greatly improved the Holdens handling. The 2 door Monaro was not available in the HZ range, and the base Belmont model was dropped
The base model was now the Kingswood with basic interior and just a bench front seat, available in Sedan, Wagon, Panel Van Utility and One Tonner.
Mid spec now was the Kingswood SL, with bucket seats, console, radio and clock, available in Sedan, Wagon and Utility
Top was still the Premier, with Trimatic trans and quad headlights, available in Sedan and Wagon;
The sporty GTS , now only sedan, got the 308 V8, manual trans, 4 wheel disc brakes, spoilers and the quad headlight front.
Also available, the longer bodied Statesman, in Deville and Caprice, the updated SLE Introduced in 1979.
The Sporty Sandman option was available on the Vans an Utes, they got bright colours, stripes, quad headlight front and Monaro interiors
Engines; Red 6 cyl; 109hp 202 cu in. V8s; 161hp 253 and 216hp 308.
