DescriptionAnglican and Methodist Church of St Matthew, Rastrick - geograph.org.uk - 519716.jpg
English: Anglican and Methodist Church of St Matthew, Rastrick Rastrick was in the vast parish of Halifax. A chapel was first built about the end of the 14C, but it was suppressed c.1547 and became used as a barn in 1578. It was restored and enlarged in 1605. Rastrick became an ecclesiastical parish in 1720, but this was abolished in 1724 when Rastrick became part of Elland parish. The chapel was rebuilt c.1797 in same style as Lightcliffe old church. Rastrick finally became an independent parish in 1881. The Methodists have shared the building since 1970, when their chapel at Carr Green in Crowtrees Road became unsafe and had to be demolished. Since Easter 2005 the Church has been a Local Ecumenical Partnership, where Methodists and Anglicans work and worship together, and are indistinguishably one Church.
