Description
Deutsch: Aufgrund des vergleichsweise jungen Aussehens des Kaisers dürfte es sich bei unserem Gemälde um ein Bildnis von Franz Stephan (1708-1765) handeln, das bereits kurz nach der 1745 erfolgten Kaiserwahl entstanden ist. Neben der Krone des Heiligen Römischen Reichs und dem Reichsapfel ruht auf dem Kissen der österreichische Erzherzogshut. Die Regierungsgeschäfte in den habsburgischen Erblanden überließ Franz Stephan jedoch im wesentlichen seiner Gemahlin Maria Theresias. Dafür muss er über eine bemerkenswerte wirtschaftliche Begabung verfügt haben, die ihn ein beträchtliches Vermögen anhäufen ließ.
