Summary

Description
English: As deposited, the material Fe60Al40 is not ferromagnetic. However, irradiating it with Ne+ ions induce disorder in the material, making it ferromagnetic. This image shows an example of this, where a focused ion beam has been used to irradiate a spiral pattern. Imaged using scanning transmission electron microscopy - differential phase contrast (STEM-DPC), which enables this type of imaging by quantifying how much the electron beam is deflected by the magnetic field in the material.
