Summary

Description
English: 1945: Former Sydney ferry HMAS BURRA BRA, tied up by British escort carrier at Circular Quay - Ross Gillett Collection.

1929. Built at Mort Dock in Sydney in 1908, the 458 tons gr Sydney passenger ferry BURRA BRA was requisitioned by the RAN on March 13, 1942, and was first used as a target tow for RAAF Beaufort bombers. Later she was used as an anti-submarine training vessel.

The old Ferry is seen here beside an unnamed BPF escort carrier tied up at the old P & O wharf terminal at Circular Quay, which in turn is beside the Tramsways Depot on the former site of Fort Macquarie.

This is all on the Eastern side of the Quay, where the Sydney Opera House stands now.

We had an earlier photo of BURRA BRA among the British Pacific Fleet units at pic NO. 401. It is here.
