Description
English: H.E. General Sir Jang Bahadur Kunwar Rana (1817-77), Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of Nepal. The General stands gazing towards the left. He wears a long, shaped coat of green and gold, and brocaded trousers of a reddish colour. His right hand is placed upon the hilt of his drawn sabre; his left rests upon his hip. He wears bracelets, armlets and necklaces, resplendent with jewels and pearls; on his jewelled headdress is a flowing bird of paradise plume. [https://himalaya.socanth.cam.ac.uk/collections/journals/bnsj/pdf/bnsj_23.pdf Given to the East India Company by the sitter in 1850, in London. It later hung in the office of the Foreign Secretary until removed by Jack Straw, & allocated to the British Library.
