Summary
[edit]Description |
Monochrome landscape painting (location not identified), Comité des Étudiants Américains de l'École des Beaux-Arts Paris post card, un-numbered, by an artist not-yet-identified; WWI postcard art. Landscape scene; miniature painting, monochromatic black-white-grey. Painted on a standard, printed 'The Comité des Étudiants Américains de l'École des Beaux-Arts Paris guarantee the authenticity of this post card', post-card blank; not numbered. Signed 'F. (T/J/F____t?)' on front; signed & captioned on the back 'A Jeau(?) Roiron(?) (possibly referring to a hamlet in Haute-Loire?)(or possibly "A Jean Roiron", as a dedication to a person, by name?)/Souvenir Juin 24 1916/F. (T/J/Falibouit?)'. 1916-06-24. Note that this seems to be a fairly early example of the Comité's post cards, at least those using the standard-design printed blanks. The card dates to 1916, which appears to be (near) the start of production; the reverse design imprint is clear, detailed, & sharp (compared to later examples), & the card is not numbered, unlike most(?) cards of this type. Possibly the artist has left 1/2 of the front area blank (again, unlike most of the cards produced) for intended postal use; as the cards are not particularly well-designed for actual use (in correspondence & mailing). Help in identifying the artist would be appreciated. Created during WWI, therefore obviously pre-1923; uploaded here to avoid Commons' "dual jurisdiction" PD rule.
