DescriptionOzark State Zephyr certificate 1936.JPG
English: Speed record certificate given to those aboard the initial (non-service) run of the Ozark State Zephyr from St. Louis to Kansas City (which would become the train's regular route). The initial run was similar to that of the Pioneer Zephyr's "Dawn to Dusk", where only railroad officials and those invited by the railroad were on board. Three days after this initial run, the Ozark State Zephyr was put into revenue service. On its run, the new Zephyr set a speed record for trains in the state of Missouri. The route was jointly operated by the Burlington and Alton railroads. It's signed by Ralph Budd, President of the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad, the vice-president of the Alton Railroad and the president of the St. Louis Chamber of Congress.
Original seller's description: "On 12/16/1936 a few days before the Ozark State Zephyr began to operate with the public a trial run was done apparently for the members of the St Louis Chamber of Commerce in which a Missouri speed record was established. The Zephyr flashed 279 miles from St Louis to Kansas City in 284 minutes. This framed certificate is a great souvenir from that occasion. It is signed by Ralph Budd, president of the Burlington Lines and Thomas Dysert who was tragically killed in an airplane crash in the early 1940s. I believe this is in the original wood frame appropriately painted silver. I believe the autographs are genuine and not preprinted although i did not want to remove the item from the frame to look more closely. This is a very attractive piece - museum quality."

Licensing
English: The item was framed and I was not able to examine the certificate in full. Because of that, I conducted a copyright search for the years 1963 and 1964. Searches were done for Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad, Alton Railroad, and St. Louis Chamber of Commerce, all with no results. Though I believe the certificate was not copyrighted, I have elected to license this as copyright not renewed.
