General note: Born in Olathe, Kansas on March 9, 1898. Fought in WWI and received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army in 1919, having been awarded numerous military decorations by the United States and France. Sebring received a Bachelor of Science degree from Kansas State Agricultural College in 1923. He was head coach of the University of Florida track, boxing and football teams while earning his law degree there. Sebring graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree in 1928. He served as Florida Supreme Court Justice from 1943 until 1955. In 1946 Justice Sebring was appointed by U.S. President Harry S. Truman to the U.S. Military War Crimes Tribunal in Nuremberg, Germany following WWII. Sebring requested, and was granted, a leave of absence for a period of up to one year during which a number of Circuit Court Judges were called to the Supreme Court to sit in his place, render opinions and vote as a full member of the Court. On September 1, 1955, Sebring retired from the Florida Supreme Court and was named the dean of Stetson University College of Law. Harold L. "Tom" Sebring died on July 26, 1968.
