Summary

Description
English: Engraving by John Parker Davis, depicting John White finding the ruins of the Roanoke colony in 1590. White's report described a tree marked "CRO" and a pallisade with "CROATOAN" inscribed near the entrance; the artist has evidently taken some liberties with these events.
