English: Thomas Streatfeild Clarkson III (November 30, 1837 – August 19, 1894) was an American businessman and philanthropist who was the namesake of Clarkson University. He attended St. Lawrence Academy and ran the Clarkson farm and various business enterprises, especially the sandstone quarries. He died by the accident in the quarry in August 1894. He was known to be kind, gentle, generous and just. He was considered a thoroughly honest man. From his early manhood until his death, the central idea of his life seemed to be a desire to work and to afford to others training as well as opportunity for work.
