English: A restaurant in Wuhan (a few blocks from Hongshan Square in Wuchang) invites diners to have a softshell turtle (jiayu). At 48 yuan per jin (half a kilo), it is a fairly expensive delicacy, considering that the "Help Wanted" sign on the same restaurant offers monthly wages in the CNY 700-1000 a month. The ad mentions, "buy 3 jin or more of the turtle, and get 4 bottles of beer free!".
I am not sure what Datang (大塘, literally "big pond") in the ad text, 大塘甲鱼 ("Big pond soft-shell turtle") means - whether it refers to a particular turtle variety, the brand name of a turtle farming company, or simply claims that the turtles have been raised (or even wild-caught?) in a supposedly "free-range" environment. There is, in any event, no direct claim that the creatures have been caught from the wild (野生)
