Operation Breaking Terrorism (Arabic: كسر الإرهاب) is the newest military operation against ISIL for liberate Fallujah. The operation has begun since 22 May 2016.[2] The operation began three months after the government had started final siege of Fallujah.

Background

Fallujah was the first city seized by Daesh in Iraq in January 2014. Iraqi forces have surrounded the western city after they liberated Ramadi in December 2015. ISIL Militants have prevented people from leaving the city.[3]

Preparations

The army published a statement on 22 May 2016 and asked residents of the battlefield to leave the area through secured routes. The army also said that local residents who could not move, should raise white flags on top of the roofs.[4]

The offensive

Haider al-Abadi ordered to beginning the operation on the early Monday of May 23. "The Iraqi flag will be raised high over the land of Fallujah." al-Abadi said.[5]
