"Poly" is only used when person(s) are engaging in *romantic* relationships with multiple partners. Non-mongamy is the correct umbrella term for anyone practicing a relationship or sexual lifestyle dynamic that includes 3 or more person(s) - regardless of emotional investment. If that were the case, it would be something like "polloiamory". Like all words starting with "poly", it derives from the singular form of the same adjective, ie πολύς (polús), as Greek Upsilon is traditionally transcribed as a Y, and the final S is dropped in combinations. undo
