Shiho Katō (Japanese: 加藤 史帆, Hepburn: Katō Shiho) is a Japanese singer, model, and actress. She is a member of Japanese idol group Hinatazaka46, represented by Sony Music Records, as well as an exclusive model for the fashion magazine CanCam.

Career

[edit]

Katō's musical career began on 11 May 2016, when she passed the auditions for the first generation of Keyakizaka46's subgroup Hiragana Keyakizaka46.[1] Her first concert was on 28 October of the same year at Akasaka Blitz, where she performed Kanji Keyakizaka46's songs "Silent Majority" and "Sekai ni wa Ai Shika Nai", as well as Hiragana Keyakizaka46's own "Hiragana Keyaki".[2]

As a Hiragana Keyakizaka46 member, she performed the subgroup's songs on every Keyakizaka46 single between "Sekai ni wa Ai Shika Nai" (2016) and "Kuroi Hitsuji" (2019). In 2018, she was appointed as center (lead singer) for the first time for "Happy Aura", a B-side for the single "Ambivalent",[3] and performed her first solo song, "Otoko Tomodachi Dakara", released on the album Hashiridasu Shunkan. She also performed "Kokkyo no Nai Jidai" as the unit Sakamichi AKB, which included selected members of AKB48 and the Sakamichi Series, released on the AKB48 single "Jabaja" (2018). With this appearance, Katō became the first Hiragana Keyakizaka46 member to be included in such a collaboration, excluding Neru Nagahama, who was a member of both Keyakizaka46 and Hiragana Keyakizaka46.[4]

After Hiragana Keyakizaka46 was renamed to Hinatazaka46 in 2019, Katō performed for every single until "Zettaiteki Dairokkan" (2024), and was also included in the lineup of another Sakamichi AKB song, "Hatsukoi Door", released on the AKB48 single "Jiwaru Days" (2019).[5] In 2021, she was appointed as center for the fifth single title song, "Kimi Shika Katan".[6][7] She performed two more solo songs, "Nageki no Delete" on "Kimi Shika Katan" and "Docchi ga Saki ni Iu?" on "Zettaiteki Dairokkan", making her the Hinatazaka46 member with the most solo songs released as of 2024.

As a model, Katō made her runway debut at the GirlsAward 2017 Autumn/Winter fashion show.[8] In February 2019, she became an exclusive model for the fashion magazine CanCam,[9] and appeared on the cover of the October edition with then-Nogizaka46 members Sayuri Matsumura and Mizuki Yamashita as the "Three Sakamichi Sisters".[10]

Katō's first photobook, titled #Aitai, was released by Shogakukan on June 20, 2023, with photographs taken in Oahu, Hawaii.[11] It is the first Hinatazaka46 photobook produced overseas.[a]

Katō's first drama appearance outside Hinatazaka46 dramas was in Shiyūgakuryokō (2021) on the streaming application Smash.[12] In 2024, she appeared in Kore kara Haishin Hajimemasu (TX Network)[13] and Ayaka Is in Love with Hiroko! (MBS TV),[14] her first leading roles in terrestrial television dramas.

On August 6, 2024, Katō announced that she would leave Hinatazaka46 after the promotions for the upcoming twelfth single have concluded, with plans to further her careers in acting and beauty and fashion.[15] Her "graduation" ceremony took place at the Tokyo Dome on December 25, as part of Hinatazaka46's national Happy Magical Tour 2024.[16]
