Sale to Bally's

The entry states:

"Soon thereafter the property was sold to Bally's Entertainment Corporation, which changed the property's name to "Bally's Grand". The sale was prompted by Steve Wynn's frustration with gaming regulators in New Jersey."

The sale to Bally's did not occur until 1987. While Wynn may have been frustruated with the regualtors, much of the motivation behind the deal came from Bally's desire to stave off an acquisition by Donald Trump. At the time (and perhaps still), nobody was permitted to own more than three casinos in Atlantic City. Trump already had two- the Plaza and the Castle (now the Marina). Bally's purchase of the Golden Nugget meant that if Trump acquired Bally's, he would own four properties (Bally's already had one Atlantic City casino), and would have to divest one, or at least shutter the casino portion (Trump later did this when he acquired the former Playboy/Atlantis proprty, shuttered the casino, and turned it into the Trump Regency hotel, which has since been demolished). This made Bally's much less appealing to Trump and there was never any acquisition.

Change from Atlantic City Hilton to ACH Casino Resort

Rationale: I've moved the article from Atlantic City Hilton to ACH Casino Resort because the property is no longer affiliated with Hilton Hotels and they have changed their name accordingly to the ACH Casino Resort. You can't just move a page like this based on a single news article. Changes like this require discussion. Despite what the article says, the hotel's website is still hiltonac.com and the website still refers to it as the "Atlantic City Hilton". The article also says "If the agreement is terminated, the property can no longer be part of the Hilton brand" meaning there is a possibility that the name will remain. Moves like this without consensus can be considered vandalism, so please revert it back to its original title, then propose a move at WP:RM. –Dream out loud (talk) 20:43, 15 July 2011 (UTC)

No it does not, read the article, Hilton has terminated the agreement. It say "The financially troubled Atlantic City Hilton Casino Resort has lost the right to use the iconic Hilton name that has graced the property for the past 15 years. Already, the Hilton has started calling itself “ACH” in its promotional literature and on its website." and the website although it is still hiltonac.com the page itself now refers to the property as ACH Casino Resort. Not vandalism. Can we please get an admin to come in and weigh on this please. TheGoofyGolfer (talk) 01:35, 16 July 2011 (UTC)

I am following normal proceedure, the fact is the ACH is not affiliated with Hilton, their franchise has been terminated, the owners changed the property's name and I make the corrections accordingly by moving the article to the new name. Also the reason they are still using the HiltonAC.com URL address is obviously because they have not registered a new URL using the ACH name yet. TheGoofyGolfer (talk) 04:54, 16 July 2011 (UTC)

It's called ACH now, it's not a Hilton. Just because they aren't able to change the url doesn't mean it's still a Hilton. They refer to it as ACH now. No discussion is needed. I live nearby and know employees, it is in fact ACH now. (Sk5893 (talk) 02:08, 26 July 2011 (UTC))

Thank you Sk5893 that was my point in the first place but for some reason Dream out loud had a bug up his butt about well it has to still be Hilton because of their website. I know a lot of companies that still use their old URL addresses, the fact is as I pointed out and as you pointed out the Atlantic City Hilton is no more. I have a bug up my butt? Why don't you grow up and act like an adult here. I guess talking down like that makes you feel better about yourself, but it's not helping the situation. The URL was not my main reason for opposing the change. My main reason was that the article made it seem that there is still a chance that the agreement may not be terminated, and moving the article would be violating WP:CRYSTAL. Maybe it would be appropriate to move it another time, but not right now at the moment. –Dream out loud (talk) 02:15, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

First off I am mature, second if you read the article throughly you would have see a press release quote directly from Hilton Hotels PR spokesman John Forrest Ales which says "Hilton confirmed Thursday that the hotel chain has ended a licensing agreement that allowed the Atlantic City casino to use the name." How much more confirmation do you need? Hilton says the ACH is not a Hilton anymore so its not a Hilton anymore, so what else do you need, just get over it and move on. Requested move

Atlantic City Hilton → ACH Casino Resort – A user has suggested this article be moved solely based on this article. I think this is a premature move and violates WP:CRYSTAL, especially since the hotel's website still says "Atlantic City Hilton" on its homepage (in the social networking section, copyright notice, and browser page title). The article also states that "If the agreement is terminated, the property can no longer be part of the Hilton brand" which implies that it is not 100% definite. While a move may be appropriate in the future, it should remain with its current title at the moment. –Dream out loud (talk) 06:20, 16 July 2011 (UTC)

• For - Rationale: User:Dream out loud opposes the original move because the ACH website has not been changed from HiltonAC.com to a new URL address but if you read the article in the reference that I included when I made the original move (see here) which states that Hilton has terminated the agreement and that "The Hilton’s website and the casino’s promotional literature that is mailed to gamblers now bear the ACH name." and a press statement in the same article from Hilton Hotel's corporate PR department stated "John Forrest Ales, a spokesman for Hilton Hotels & Resorts, confirmed Thursday that the hotel chain has ended a licensing agreement that allowed the Atlantic City casino to use the name." so therefore by Hilton's own admission the Atlantic City Hilton is NOT the Atlantic City Hilton anymore so therefore the article SHOULD be moved immediately without prejudice to ACH Casino Resort.
