In the aftermath of the move William Harrison (ice hockey)Bill Harrison (ice hockey), the nomination is withdrawn and restyled below as Bill Harrison (California politician)Bill Harrison (politician). —Roman Spinner (talk)(contribs) 21:32, 22 February 2018 (UTC) [reply]

Bill Harrison (California politician)Bill Harrison – Unlike the concurrent Talk:Billy Harrison#Requested move 22 February 2018 which concerns three Billy Harrisons at the William Harrison disambiguation page, Bill Harrison is the sole such-named subject of a Wikipedia article, thus making this RM somewhat similar [given name "Bill" here — surname "Tillmann" there] to the recent Talk:John Tillmann#Requested move 4 February 2018 where the article hatnote, For other people with similar names, see John Tillman, provides sufficient disambiguation. In this case, For other people with similar names, see William Harrison, would also suffice. —Roman Spinner (talk)(contribs) 16:01, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Numerous Williams are also informally known as "Bill", "Will", "Willie", "Willy" or "Billy". There would be nothing improper in adding redirects such as, for example, Bill Harrison (ice hockey) or Bill Harrison (educationalist) which would flow to the two men listed above. If the ice hockey player is listed as "Bill" more frequently than as "William", we would consider moving his main title header to Bill Harrison (ice hockey) and, upon completing that move, move the politician's header to Bill Harrison (politician) [no need to specify "California"]. We would not, however, preemptively append a parenthetical disambiguator to a unique main header (the politician's article doesn't even indicate that his official given name is "William") simply because the same informal name variant may be used by others whose main headers "officially" list them as "William". —Roman Spinner (talk)(contribs) 18:46, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
So a more notable person known as both William and Bill could never be primary topic for both? Peter James (talk) 19:44, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Many men whose given name is "James" are also known as "Jim" or "Jimmy", "David" is frequently "Dave", "Michael" is "Mike", "Charles" is "Charlie" or "Chuck", etc. When disambiguating people with common surnames, there may be among them numerous Jameses, but only one Jim or Jimmy. In listing entries within disambiguation pages for men whose given names are "John", "Michael" or "Philip", etc, we use main title headers appearing atop each individual article, rather than considering the possibility that these men are also known by other forms of their given names. As far the dab page under discussion is concerned, although William Harrison has 38 entries, none of those 34 William, 3 Billy and 1 Bill Harrison rises to the level of WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, thus obviating it as an issue in this discussion. However, since the ice hockey player does appear to be frequently referenced as "Bill", I will submit an RM for William Harrison (ice hockey)Bill Harrison (ice hockey) which, if successful, would also resolve this RM. —Roman Spinner (talk)(contribs) 20:26, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
To answer the question, yes, a notable person definitely can be the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for both "William Surname" and "Bill Surname" (see the piped links for a specific example that also has an associated disambiguation page). In such an instance, one of those is called a WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT. —BarrelProof (talk) 20:42, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Bill Harrison (California politician)Bill Harrison (politician) – Although the William Harrison disambiguation page lists politicians named "William Harrison", subject is sole politician named "Bill Harrison", thus obviating the need for enhanced qualifier indicating location. —Roman Spinner (talk)(contribs) 21:48, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
