Why would you pay that much for expired surge, when you could conceivably purchase it in Norway? (and have it exported) [[User:Rhymeless|Rhymeless | (Methyl Remiss)]] 06:46, 20 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Surge does not taste the same as urge, simple as that.

NPOV?

[edit]

"The beginning of 2005 brought an exciting campaign to bring SURGE back to the store shelves of Wal-Mart."

Surely the excitingness of such a campaign is for the reader to decide. Also the proximity of the words "brought" and "bring" is a little uncomfortable. I'm going to change it. TheJames 20:56, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Not in USA?

[edit]

That's strange because the Chuck E. Cheese's down the street has it... -Fetology 16:53, Jun 6, 2005 (UTC)

I was still able to find Surge in fountain form only at a local Fuddruckers after it disappeared from store shelves. It wouldn't surprise me if other specialty restaurant chains such as Chuck E. Cheese's still had it on fountain as well.

I remember heading there one night to satisfy my cravings for high quality burgers and Surge, only to find that it vanished from the fountain as well. I do not remember exactly when this was, but I believe it was sometime in 2003 or 2004. I have not been able to find it anywhere else since.Yorath (talk) 17:00, 2 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

At the Big Top Flea Market in Tampa, FL, where I live, I spotted a Coke machine that still had a Surge label on it, but when I pressed the button I got a bottle of water instead. That was so disappointing for me, since I don't like Mountain Dew-type drinks, but my dad does! 97.97.174.186 (talk) 15:57, 15 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Drikk Urge? Psh. REMOVED! Amerika 03:05, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC) Ha! I should read. In the future, totally and completley disregard me. I'm adding a caption letting people like me know that's the Norwegian label, though. Amerika 03:07, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Availability

[edit]

An anon(with an ip from the US) changed this to say that you can buy this in Sweden and Denmark. I am pretty sure you can't, I have looked for it there when I've been there with no luck finding it, here(in Norway) it can be found everywhere. I am changing it back. Fuelbottle | Talk 08:37, 6 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

There is something seriously wrong with this page, Surge and Urge are NOT the same drinks. Urge has a different taste. I live in Norway, and travelled to the US in 96 or so. I picked up some surge, definetly not the same soda. Someone ought to clean up the page. Urge's taste is definetly a lot better than surge, which is the reason it is still being sold here in Norway. I am not well enough versed in Wikipedia redirects and procedures, but the way I think it should be done is this: main page urge, list surge as a failed variation. Urge was the original releasename, and is the only one it is still sold as. Using surge as main article makes no sense. It should be noted that my pov is that surge tastes like piss compared to urge, and this is also the reason it failed in the US etc. Seing how the drink is still marketed as urge a lot of the first paragraph is very misleading. I have a few bottles of urge on my desk, one I bought today and it has the original logo. See http://www.cocacola.no/page3-0.jsp for information from the producers themselves. It should be noted that the colors are slightly off, a real bottle has a lot less intense coloration, both of the soda and logo in general. This is most likely an artifact of image processing. The same effect can be seen on the fanta page, where the bottles have unnatural colors.

Almost 50%?

[edit]

Why not just say 45% more, or, contains 145%. Almost 50% more, where almost 50% more is a known quantity, that quantity being 45% is as overstated as this conversation point. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.84.98.108 (talkcontribs)

I have removed this image beause it is useless because it is horribly pixelated. Kilo-Lima|(talk) 20:32, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"An title cannot redirect somewhere when it is already on that title"

Sorry, I don't understand what you mean. What's wrong with having "Surge redirects here?" I put that there so people would know that "Surge" would redirect to that page. Intelliguy 23:43, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Urban legend

[edit]

Any info on the urban myth that, because it contains "Yellow #5" (I believe that was the one), Surge will shrink your balls? I remember that was a pretty widespread myth back in the day, and while I always figured it was bogus, I'm curious. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.177.39.250 (talk) 03:00, August 25, 2007 (UTC)

No basis in fact. SchuminWeb (Talk) 03:34, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I also recall that rumor going around, was there any link to slipping sales due to this rumor? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 161.130.148.22 (talk) 00:15, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Definately. But in the version I heard, it was your penis that shrinked. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.107.39.149 (talk) 14:53, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Should "Surge" link directly here? Nowadays, people (at least Americans) searching for "surge" are more likely thinking of the Iraq War troop surge of 2007 than of a discontinued soft drink. --Hyperbole 07:01, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Personally, I'm inclined to leave the soda on the "Surge" title, but some disambiguation may be in order. SchuminWeb (Talk) 19:11, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
And it's linked on the dab page linked from the article. The only thing on that list that's actually called "Surge" is the soda, so that should take center stage on the main title. SchuminWeb (Talk) 19:14, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Surge now links to the dab page. There's no way a defunct soda brand should be the default link when so many other defiitions also apply.

Fair use rationale for Image:Surge logo.png

[edit]

Image:Surge logo.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

URGE

[edit]

Can we have pictures of SURGE? I don't like how there's only one image of Surge itself, not it's Norwegian predecessor Indianparttime2 (talk) 04:54, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have a quality free image of Surge to put in there? SchuminWeb (Talk) 14:27, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I found these two, which are under Creative Commons: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mrkolby/2505566878/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/mrkolby/2505566868/

I could also use this one: http://i40.tinypic.com/2yor89f.jpg which is from http://mattparnell.com

The owner states:

Please host it yourself and give credit and a link back to my site if you use my images.Indianparttime2 (talk) 20:22, 28 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

And unfortunately, all three are unusable - the two Flickr images are CC-BY-ND, which is not free enough for our use, and then I would be wary about using the last one because the licensing terms that you've mentioned are not explicit enough about what we can do with it. Additionally, I couldn't find that statement on the Web site, and most I could find was "© Matt Parnell's Brain: Plugged In!" It was indeed a good effort on your part, but when you do a Flickr search, you need to check all three Creative Commons boxes to get Wikipedia-compatible images. SchuminWeb (Talk) 04:05, 29 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I could e-mail Matt Parnell about his image. Would his permission to use it be enough? Indianparttime2 (talk) 20:10, 29 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The easiest thing would probably be to ask him to come here and upload it himself using his own account. Tchernobog (talk) 10:26, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm Matt Parnell, feel free to use it. I'm upgrading my site soon and will be taking newer pictures of my (now large) Surge collection. Ilikenwf (talk) 18:51, 24 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Edit notice added

[edit]

Considering the constant edits of people incorrectly changing "Urge" to "Surge", I have added an edit notice to this page bringing attention to and clarifying this point. I honestly have no idea if everyone can edit these notices or just administrators (my guess is the latter). It's at Template:Editnotices/Page/Surge (soft drink). If you can edit the message, please do, and make it better. If you can't edit the message, then suggest changes, and I'll change it. SchuminWeb (Talk) 05:34, 24 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Los Campesiños

[edit]

I support the removal of the mention of Los Campesiños restaurant. Nothing on the source page (A) indicates how old that menu is, and (B) no mention is made of a special deal with Coke. Additionally, (C) why would a little mom-and-pop restaurant have a deal to produce a soda that a lot of people want when even Walmart couldn't get it? SchuminWeb (Talk) 08:15, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

All right, I didn't know this area was here. It sounds fair enough. I won't re-add it. Backtable Speak to meconcerning my deeds. 04:03, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Trademark

[edit]

I added the Trademark section to the article. Sorry I forgot to put in a subject when I saved... my first wiki contribution citing sources and such. I was looking into the trademark for the SURGE Movement group on Facebook as they're looking into doing a billboard ad campaign. If anyone else knows more about the proper usage of SURGE name and trademarks, please go ahead and edit the new Trademark section.

Urge Confusion

[edit]

I was the Director of New Products at Coca Cola responsible for the conception, development and launch of Surge and Urge. I've tried a couple of times to correct the content on this post but had the incorrect content reinstated. The main error that keeps popping up relates to the conception of Urge and the relationship between the two brands. In fact, Surge was developed by me and my team and Urge was a later derivative we modified for the different conditions in the Norweigan market. The Surge trademark was unavailable there - we tested some names and Urge topped the poll. The formulation was also differnt - if I remember correctly, we couldn't use the same food colouring we had in the US and were required to adopt a natural colour. I also recall that the Urge was required to contain some fruit juice content under local food law - which may be as high as 5%. I do not recall the precise dates of the launches but its possible that we got Urge to market a little ahead of Surge - but this was more to do with lining up the bottlers. If you cite this somewhere like a blog, we can use it as a source and fix it in the article. 64.22.231.226 (talk) 14:03, 16 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
