Answers[edit]

Hi there, to answer your questions:

  1. No, you cannot just add any picture to Wikipedia, we need to ensure copyright is not an issue. Please see WP:UPIMAGE for more information.
  2. Are you referring to WP:BETA?
  3. Use ref tags to provide a basic source- <ref>SOURCE</ref> - see also WP:CITE and WP:IC for more detailed information about how to do this.

If you need any more help please ask. GiantSnowman 12:33, 20 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The copyright tends to belong to the photographer who took the picture. See WP:NONFREE for more information. GiantSnowman 13:03, 20 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

THANK YOU[edit]

Hi Dan, you are the first to take the time to use Internet Archive to verify a cite on my page whose page had been moved after previously being verified. I would ask you revisit your corrected cite https://warnerchappell.com/browse-our-songs/?mode=search&query=todd+meagher&sort=&refiners=%7B%7D and use it to verify the failed verification of the following: "Throughout the 1980s Meagher's company Todd Meagher Music had a co-publishing songwriter deal with Warner/Chappell Music co-writing songs with artists including Night Ranger, Gorky Park, Tuff (band), Eddie Money, Alice Cooper, White Lion, Warrant, Julian Lennon and Vince Neil (Mötley Crüe).[1][2][failed verification]"

Brad Gillis and Kelly Keagy are members of the band Night Ranger and listed as my co-writers for the songs Chains of Love, Children of the Fire, Fallen Angel, I'll Be There, Never Say Die and Precious Time. Alexei N. BeLov is the guitar player for the band Gorky Park and listed as my co-writer for the song Tell Me Why. George DeSaint and Stevie Rachelle are members of the band Tuff and listed as my co-writers on the song I Hate Kissing You Goodbye. Greg DeAngelo and James Lomenzo are members of the band White Lion and listed as my co-writers for the song Too Wild To Tame. Erik Turner is the guitar of the band Warrant and listed as my co-writer for the songs Don't Say Goodnight and Best I Can. Vince Neil is the singer for Motley Crue and listed as my co-writers for the song The Last Goodbye.Toddmeagher (talk) 12:56, 3 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Toddmeagher I've done a bit more editing. You've probably worked it out by now, but just in case you haven't, if you want to use the same reference multiple times in an article, then give the reference a name in quotation marks (in this example it's "WRH Billboard"), and just add the first bit of the reference to the next section that you want to add the reference to with an added forward slash like this '''<ref name="WRH Billboard" />''' Danstarr69 (talk) 23:57, 3 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Wow. Thanks! Toddmeagher (talk) 15:49, 4 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Help with categories[edit]

Hi Dan, I spotted you were looking to add a page to a category. To add a page into a category, you place it at the bottom of the article to go into that category, i.e. Category:Channel 4 sitcoms is added to the bottom of the Black Books article. In this instance, Drifters is already in a subcategory Category:E4 sitcoms so won't need to be added. Bob talk 09:49, 18 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have directed you now twice to MOS:TVNOW, which explains that we refer to television shows in the present tense here whether or not they are still being produced or broadcast. Your insistence on changing this, despite the note already present in the article itself advising you not to, is disruptive. Please stop. General Ization Talk 03:55, 4 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
This has nothing to do with grammar, by the way. In this era, television shows do not cease to exist because they are no longer being broadcast; they have been recorded, and can be resyndicated or played from recorded media at any time. Therefore they are referred to in the present tense in the encyclopedia. General Ization Talk 03:59, 4 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Again with the snarky edit summaries. Cleaning up your copyright violations does not make someone a "jobsworth". Persist with this shitty attitude towards copyright - and towards other editors - and I predict your tenure here will be shorter than you might expect. Neil S. I'm obviously new to editing Wikipedia. Last month I found out about the "is" vs "was" thing, and now today I've found out I can't copy and paste sentences someone else has wrote. But instead of being helpful, sending me a message why I can't do that, and correcting them for me, you're deleting them altogether and being a jobsworth.

Disambiguation link notification for August 14[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Damo and Ivor, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Damon (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Userbox Creation[edit]

I'm trying to create my 1st ever userbox, and it's ok so far but there's a few things I need to know. 1 - How do I get the text to be centralised? 2 - How do I get the text (specifically the City of Bradford text) to be bold? 3 - Can I change the text colour of the City of Bradford page I linked from Blue to Yellow? 4 - How do I make the City of Bradford text slightly bigger, and is there any guide to show what size it will be?

Eg. This user was born in the

  City of Bradford
This user was born in the City of Bradford

5 - When I've got it how I want it, where should I post it so that other Bradfordians can use it too?

January 2019[edit]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, articles should not be moved without good reason. They should have a name that is both accurate and intuitive. Wikipedia has some guidelines in place to help with this. Generally, a page should only be moved to a new title if the current name doesn't follow these guidelines. Also, if a page move is being discussed, consensus needs to be reached before anybody moves the page. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. -- /Alex/21 22:44, 18 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Accusation of Sock-puppetry[edit]

I respectfully request that you strike the accusation of sock-puppetry that you made against me at Wikipedia:Teahouse#Page deleted. I have never edited any page regarding the Melucci family and am unsure what made you think otherwise. I am also not Jackie Melucci. StudiesWorld (talk) 00:30, 27 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

StudiesWorld The person who wrote the message about the Melucci family on Teahouse, didn't sign their message. Your username was the only one which appeared in edit history, so I thought it must have been you. Then after I had tagged you and refreshed the page, the user who actually wrote the message about the Melucci family appeared in the edit history.

Your teahouse post[edit]

Hi Danstarr69. I think you might have intended your post at WP:THQ#Page deleted to be for the previous section WP:THQ#Melucci, but perhaps it got misplaced during an edit conflict caused by me when I was trying to sort the threads out. I don't think there's any connection between Jackie Melucci and Creator151853. Sometimes when new editors post at the Teahouse they forget to sign their posts or they add their posts to the wrong section. That's most likely what happened here and things were a little confusing until they threads were re-organized and the missing signatures were added. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:14, 27 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Marchjuly I saw them both and thought they must be from the same person who called themselves Jackie. Then when I checked the melucci page, and saw someone called Jack, I thought, nope there's two people with the same surname. I only looked at the latest few edits from Creator151853 to see if there were any more Meluccis being added. But as I couldn't be bothered looking through the rest, it makes sense that there weren't any, as Jackie and Jack are the same person.

Danstarr69 (talk) 01:45, 27 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

There will always be a record in the page history to figure out who posted what and when. There's a WP:BOT that adds missing signatures to posts, but often another editor will do so instead. In this case, I don't think there's any connection between Creator and Jackie, but I can see how it might've been confusing. Anyway, the Jackie account has been indefinitely blocked per WP:NOTHERE; so, if you notice any similar edits being made by another account, then you might want to ask an admin to look into it. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:51, 27 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Marchjuly I only came to Teahouse to see if there was anyway to merge "Strangers (TV Series)" into "Strangers (TV series)", and then merge them both into one of the 3 shows, or the TV section disambiguation page.

But as I was there I decided to reply to that comment which didn't have a signature, and the history showed the latest 3 edits from the same account, who assumed was the person with the unsigned post, and then I though it must be Creator after I had refreshed. I didn't think to look at the times, but even if I did I don't think it would've helped as Wikipedia seems to be around an hour behind me in the UK for some reason, which is weird in itself as isn't Wikipedia based in the USA?

The Strangers pages I wanted condensed down have been merged into the TV section of the disambiguation page, but annoyingly they still appear in the top 10 of the search, while pages like Strangers (1978 TV series) and Strangers (2018 TV series) only appear if you type in the year.

It's like with The Royal which annoyingly doesn't appear in the top 10 search results when you type "The Royal".

Doug Weller There's nothing disruptive about my editing whatsoever. He isn't as clever as he thinks he is, and it's clear you're an American who doesn't understand the difference as usual.

  • Great Britain aka Britain is an island which contains 3 countries.
  • The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland aka The UK is a sovereign state containing 4 countries.
  • People from the UK and the Crown Dependencies are British
  • However people from the some of the other islands in the British Isles and the 14 British Overseas Territories are also technically British albeit less so.

Danstarr69 (talk) 16:11, 7 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'm British. I live in Derbyshire. I was born in Florida. So I don't come from Great Britain. And it didn't belong in that article anyway. This might help.[1] And of course British people which says "The British people, or Britons, are the citizens of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the British Overseas Territories, and the Crown dependencies". That would be the article for your argument, but I'd advise you to use the talk page first. I see that you are not one to asume good faith. Doug Weller talk 16:20, 7 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Doug Weller The paragraph I wrote should be exactly where I put it, right at the top of the Britain (place name), not right down at the bottom of the "modern usage" section.

Why? Because I see people everyday talking about British people or British things coming from Britain, rather than the UK. For example: British TV networks, where non-Brits don't realise the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, UKTV etc are also broadcast in Northern Ireland, as Northern Ireland and Northern Irish people are British. However they have access to some Irish TV networks too. Danstarr69 (talk) 16:36, 7 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A J Brown[edit]

hello Danstarr69. I have amended your edit regarding AJ Brown's education - St Bede's was in central Bradford (Drewton Street) at the time Brown attended - hope this helps. Random Tyke 11:23, 30 May 2020 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by RandomTyke (talkcontribs)

Jonathan Lewis[edit]

Please see WP:BOMBARD - adding a heap of references one after the other adds nothing. If you believe 'Jon' is his common name then please start a WP:RM. Do not revert me again WP:BRD. GiantSnowman 18:32, 30 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

This British GQ piece, which says Loyle Carner (real name: Benjamin Gerard Coyle-Larner), is already cited in the article. How many citations do we need? One is more than sufficient per WP:OVERKILL, you know? I'm also confused by your assertion that you were going to be correcting another birth name later today for another massive name British rapper because like Loyle Carner, his birth name has been incorrect on Wikipedia. How has Loyle Carner's birth name in the article been incorrect when all of the sources (including the ones you included) have said the same thing? KyleJoantalk 08:26, 30 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Observations[edit]

I agree with you that too many people just take info out of articles rather than put in the energy to find a source. Hope you're not discouraged. Gimmetrow 04:55, 5 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Gimmetrow it's why I spend most of my time updating IMDB as one of the Top 100 IMDB Contributors in the world.
Once factual information is added. It is never removed.
The Top 15 IMDB Contributors consists of technologically advanced people who are "congratulated" for using programs they've made to add information, to game the system, rather than add it themselves. Therefore their "contributions" most likely contain a lot of incorrect information.
However if they've created a program to add multiple episodes at a time, then I don't blame them, as adding episodes 1 at a time is tedious.
Whereas I'm extremely accurate. For example I search through countless profiles to make sure I have the correct person (especially when they have a common name) before I add them to a title/episode, rather than creating another duplicate profile, like most people do.
If I've spent a lot time searching for someone's profile, I will usually add things like their websites, social media profiles, CV's, bios, and birth details, so that I can find them easier in future.
Most people also just add production and distribution companies to a title, whereas I add every single miscellaneous company which is credited in a production, as even though they might seem irrelevant, certain companies are extremely useful...
They help establish connections between related people and titles, as there's certain people/companies which nearly always work together on productions, sometimes in the same locations, so once you've found connections between people/companies/locations etc, it's easier to find the rest to fill out an incomplete title.
TV films are usually quick to complete.
Short films can be quick, however a lot of them can take days to complete.
Feature films usually take a week or more.
Documentaries take forever to complete, as the cast credits are usually listed throughout a show, rather than at the end, so you end up having to watch most of a documentary, which you're usually not interested in.
And TV series take forever to complete, unless you start adding and updating episodes as soon as they start of course.
A couple of weeks ago I added a national web-series of 15 short films, which had at least 1000 credits in total, one of which focused on my city.
That took me around a week to complete.
In the weeks before that, I was adding and updating some long-forgotten documentary series from 50+ years ago, which focused on multiple cities in my county, similar to the ones in One Pair of Eyes (TV series).
And I've updated many more things in between, as I'm constantly finding new stuff (about my city, my county, or its people) to update by accident. Over Christmas for example, I stumbled across a documentary TV series from a couple of years ago which filmed in my city which I've added to IMDB, but haven't filled in yet. I also stumbled across a TV documentary Christmas film, also from a couple of years ago, and filmed in a nearby town, which is also missing from IMDB and Wikipedia, just like the documentary TV series, so I'll be adding that soon. And last week, I was reminded that a relatively famous musician who I went to school with, and has had his music appear in big American TV dramas, has been one of the co-presenters of an American news-magazine style talk show, similar to This Morning (TV programme) for the last year. That show which has been running every weekday since 2018, is also missing from Wikipedia, and has recently been added to IMDB by me. I've added around 100 episodes so far, but haven't filled any of them in with the presenters yet. The guests can add themselves, as it'll take forever to update if I go searching for every one I can find. Danstarr69 (talk) 05:47, 5 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi[edit]

@Danstarr69:, I read your recent post at the teahouse and I do agree with you on the point that their are alot more left wing reliable sources available than right-wing. The only one I think that is reliable right wing is the Wall Street Journal, but they're not always republican. I understand how you feel about the seeming unfairness, but I would for your own benefit that you don't bring it up too much because I almost got blocked for trying my best to argue that Left wing sources are dominant here. Again though I forget a major survey that concluded that for every Republican editing, there are 2 Democrats and mostly admins, who say they are neutral and insist I follow policy, revert many edits on my part that are considered too Republican. Anyway what I'm saying is try not to get in alot of hot water. There's pratically nothing to do about it unless we could gather all the editors who agree with us and give an argument to the village pump or some place. I can't make any right-edits anyway because their are no reliable sources to use. Cheers and don't go as deep as I did or you might be done editing for awhile. Sorry about your province in the UK that is still considered Greater London by some. The Capitalist forever (talk) 05:44, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The Capitalist forever I know what they're like, they're just like Quorans.
Around 2014/15, Quora kept popping up a lot at the time when I was searching for stuff, and as it seemed like a simpler version of Wikipedia, where you could write whatever you wanted, I joined it.
I then spent around 3 years updating topics on an almost daily basis, mainly on British subjects like:
Film - films, production companies, film distributors, film genres etc.
TV - TV shows, TV networks, TV channels, TV genres etc.
Radio - radio station companies, national stations, regional stations, music genres, songs etc.
Sport - governing bodies, leagues, competitions, teams etc (mainly on football and rugby).
People - actors, presenters, comedians, politicians, sportspeople etc.
Geography - regions, counties, cities, towns, villages etc.
As they were all a mess, and massively incomplete.
I corrected incorrect names.
I put them into their family tree style order, just like categories are on here.
I created and added images to make to topics clearer.
Although I probably spent more time, removing topics like BBC, HBO, Netflix, Amazon, Netflix, Hulu, PBS, Fox etc from questions about ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, UKTV, Sky etc shows, along with correcting the questions themselves.
It was mainly North Americans asking those questions and adding incorrect topics obviously, but there were also quite a lot of Indians, and a few Brits too, who bowed down to the USA, thinking the USA created everything British, and refusing to be corrected.
However there was one specific admin who was useless, and clearly doesn't know what the word specific means, as you'd see him going around constantly, creating duplicate topics for things which already existed, except they now had the word specific added for no reason, ie "specific actors."
Specific in what way exactly? We have no idea, as he never specified anything, and you couldn't message them if I remember correctly.
Yet he got paid to create problems, while I was using my spare time to help improve the website.
To get a topic name corrected, or to get a locked topic unlocked so I could move it, I would go to 1 of 2 groups (a 3rd similar group appeared a bit later) which contained a couple of former staff members who still had admin privileges.
Those two were excellent, although I remember them telling me that the current staff weren't overly keen on renaming Soccer to Football, so they compromised by renaming it Soccer/Association Football instead, if I remember correctly.
However for the last few months of me using Quora, they completely disappeared, so there were no admins to contact for help.
There were also two persistently annoying bots. One which would automatically reverse your corrections. And one which would revert that bot. So they were caught in a revert war a lot of the time.
And finally Quora completely ruined the website.
I then decided to leave Quora completely, and start trying to edit Wikipedia properly, as I'd only edited bits and pieces until then.
However after around a year or editing quite regularly, I got sick of:
1 - Seeing admins removing, but not replacing dead links.
2 - The American language being the prioritised over English on articles which aren't specific to the USA.
3 - People, again mainly Americans, removing references I had added to British topics, even when...
  • There were no alternatives available online.
  • I had explained why I was using that reference.
  • They mentioned nothing controversial. They were just to prove things like, this person appeared in this TV show, this person went to this school, this person was born here etc
  • They were usually just Deprecated, not Blacklisted sites, so shouldn't have been removed, but as we all know, as soon as most Wikipedians notice a deprecated source from the Daily Mail, The Sun, The Star etc, they will immediately remove them despite the subject matter, and won't listen to reason.
I then stopped editing Wikipedia as often, and started editing IMDB on a daily basis.
IMDB is a lot easier to add stuff (in most cases), but a lot harder to remove facts.
Which is why there is a lot of false information on there, mainly from extras and crew members who weren't credited.
But there's also a lot of missing information, probably because some people think you you need to buy IMDB Pro to edit, when you don't.
However IMDB has an admin problem, just like every other company it seems.
What are wrong with IMDB admins?
There is or was around 10 categories where admins would constantly decline additions/corrections, even when you had provided evidence. I can't remember what most of them are, but birth/details are 2 of the problem categories, which sometimes get declined multiple times, even with countless pieces of evidence provided.
They only ever had 1 admin on the help community daily. She was helpful most of the time, however she was only ever around for an hour or two, and only ever answered/solved a few questions/problems.
A few other admins would pop in every now and again, before disappearing for a month/months/years, but most of the time it was just her, so 99.99% of the questions/problems were and are left to the volunteers like me to advise them on.
At one point I noticed a guy from Birmingham claiming incorrect credits were on his profile, and he wanted them deleted.
I found the films, and proved he was lying with screenshots of the credits and sometimes films themselves.
He attempted to get those factual credits removed multiple times.
I had around 10 questions/problems which could only be solved by an admin, which were unanswered/unsolved for months, so I created a list containing the posts to my 10 questions/problems.
I few months later I noticed a woman from Philadelphia wanting to get countless credits for a man deleted from her short films, because she claimed he didn't work on them.
I found the films on her own social media channels, and proved he did work on them as, he was the co-director on them all, he acted in most of them, he was credited in them all, plus they even had cast and crew photos of them all together.
She gave me, and the guy whose credits she was trying to get deleted, some abuse because I had proven she was a liar, so I gave her some abuse back.
She them deleted the post, and kept creating new posts every day, claiming the same thing, and some admins fell for her lies without any proof.
By this time I had built up around 30 unanswered/unsolved questions/answers, over the course of around 9 months, so when I saw the founder of IMDB Col Needham, I listed my unanswered/unsolved questions/problems, and pointed out how useless his admins were.
He them immediately blocked me from the Help Community.
I then rejoined with 3 different emails over the next few months, behaving myself by not writing down anything angry, yet still, as soon as Col Needham noticed an account was me, because of the films/TV shows/people I was talking about, he would immediately block those too.
Now my only help on IMDB is through the Contact Form.
Like everywhere else it's mainly bad, although it usually depends who reads the emails.
There's roughly 10 admins who read the emails.
2 or 3 of them usually solve my problems straight away.
6 or 7 of them are hit and miss, as sometimes they don't understand my very detailed problem, and sometimes they'll resubmit my contributions claiming it was declined in error, yet that rarely works, as I'll have resubmitted it countless times already before emailing them, so I usually have to explain twice.
And 1 person with a Latin sounding name, hasn't solved a single problem as far as I can remember, as all he ever does is copy and paste guidelines, which are usually completely irrelevant to the problem I've emailed them to solve, and can only be solved by an admin checking the submissions.
I've been a Top 300 IMDB Contributor since I started, and I've regularly been in the Top 100 for the last year or two.
That means I have free IMDB Pro membership, not that I use it that often, as 99% of things I can see and edit without needing IMDB Pro (which basically just lets you see upcoming productions, and be able to add/correct more company contact details related stuff).
Every now and again, I'll see something film/TV/location related and think...
"That needs updating on Wikipedia and/or Google," so I'll attempt to correct it.
Which is why I'm here now.
I noticed a film by screenwriter from my city (which no-one other than me seems to know about, as usual) was available to view on demand for free, so I had a look to see if he had written anymore films or TV shows recently. While I was looking I noticed he wasn't in the writers from my city category on Wikipedia. I then noticed that many more screenwriters from my city (one of which was in the mainstream news yesterday attending the Red carpet premiere of his new TV series, which he didn't even enter) were also missing from the writers category, so I thought I'd add some of those too, and create some more categories to add to the ones I've already created.
Then someone who is clearly an experienced editor, on a completely new profile, yet was somehow partially blocked from the start (How that happens I have no idea. Has he changed his IP address, and Wikipedia has somehow been able to track him? Like with a post I noticed recently about some editors constantly changing IP addresses to vandalise articles), had reverted one of my additions, because of the stupid guidelines of using historical birth places rather than current birthplaces...
...Not to mention Wikipedia allowing other historical locations like historic counties be in the introductions of articles about UK places, rather than or along with their current ceremonial counties. They shouldn't be anywhere near the introductions, and should always be below the contents boxes, as it'll just confuse non-Brits, just like it confuses me when I'm trying to work out the county/state equivalents for other countries. Danstarr69 (talk) 14:25, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Danstarr69: I understand everything you have written, my edits get reverted here alot, but at least this place has admins that actually answer at the help desk. Sounds like Quora and IMBD aren't going to be places I am editing any time soon. Sorry for all the trouble you've had to go through. If you need help or anything, let me know, and remember that I'm one of those people who holds your view on the liberal media used in wikipedia as opposed the "unreliable" Conservative sources. Lettherebedarklight in his message sorta exposed himself as left wingest when he said (paraphrasing)"yah that's what all Right-wing and flat earthers say." Have a good one mate! The Capitalist forever (talk) 18:54, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The Capitalist forever IMDB which I edit daily, is still excellent, even with the admins who seem unable to read properly.
As I said, 99% of things I can add without proof.
It's only things like birth/death details, birth names, name corrections, title corrections, marriage details, movie connections, trivia etc which sometimes or always need proof.
Most of the time I only need an admins help to rename/merge companies, and rarely to get false/poor quality images/videos/trailers removed, which only they can do.
I used to need their help a lot to:
1 - Replace incorrect people credits with the correct people.
2 - Delete completely false credits, eg people from other countries usually India, people who weren't even born when a production was made again usually India, and people who had added their credits to the wrong department (not people who likely worked on a production, but were just uncredited).
3 - Moving credits to the correct department.
4 - Add new names for people like rappers whose names had capital letters or numbers in the middle or at the end of their names, as they never accepted them 12 months ago. It always used to be the standard, all names need to start with a capital letter (ie John Smith) or number (ie 50 Cent), with lowercase letters for the rest.
However in the last 6-12 months, I've rarely had problems correcting or deleting credits, or moving credits to a different department, and it seems like rap style names are now accepted without needing admin intervention anymore.
I don't know whether that's because it's one of the few things they've improved (as they making the website worse by making everything big and bulky, as though they're focusing on people who are partially sighted), or whether it's because I'm a Top 100 Contributor, therefore they know I'm most likely telling the truth when I correct something. Danstarr69 (talk) 03:37, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Danstarr69:, that is quite interesting information. Does sound alot easier than Wikipedia, but I'm the kind of person to edit there. I'm not a big movie guy whos knows alot about that kind of stuff. You should make books, your replies are quite interesting. Thanks for the info! Don't think I have a problem with IMBD, it sounds like a great place in general. The Capitalist forever (talk) 04:26, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The Capitalist forever I try to focus on updating productions or people from City of Bradford or Yorkshire in general, which is what I try to do here.
However while updating those productions or people, I end up getting side-tracked constantly when I notice things which are incomplete, so I update those too, especially when they're related to the original production or person.
For example, last month I decided to update the cast/crew/companies on at least 50 feature films (mainly in the horror and/or sci-fi genres) from a few specific companies and people, because at least 5 of those films used the same filming location in Bradford (not that anyone other than me realises), and many more of them used Yorkshire actors who I've seen pop up again and again, so I thought it was about time to check the credits on those films, and add missing credits.
It didn't take that long to check the credits on those films, as unlike most feature films, they didn't have 1000s of credits. They averaged between around 50 and 100 credits per film, are all poor quality, and all of which are available to watch for free on Youtube, on various feature film distribution channels, usually based in places like the USA or Canada.
There's still around 100 more films left to update from those few companies and people, and there will probably be more, as most of the films have different writers/directors/producers who focus on a few specific film series each, some of which are made by different companies.
But as usual, while updating those films, I got distracted by something else.
Therefore I probably spend around 10% of my time updating Yorkshire productions and people, with 90% of my time updating productions from elsewhere, by at least one of the same companies or people. They're usually productions in Northern places like Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, and occasionally in places like Birmingham or Greater London, but as last month proved, Yorkshire people are also involved in a lot of productions in places like Bristol and Essex.
Where do I find productions for free, to check credits?
Usually on free TV-on-Demand players like BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All4, My5, UKTV Play, S4C Clic etc, and video social media sites like Youtube, Vimeo, OK, Mail, VK, Dailymotion etc, however there's also free streaming sites like Pluto TV and Tubi TV (which isn't available in the UK anymore, but can be accessed with a VPN), non-legal film sites, along with countless archive film/TV related websites like BFI Player and BFI Collections, some of which are on specific subjects like music TV shows or schools TV shows.

I also archive every single external link I add to IMDB pages, along with the IMDB pages themselves, on both the Wayback Machine and Archive.today, just in case the productions or links, mysteriously go missing. Danstarr69 (talk) 06:18, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Tyson Fury/endorsements[edit]

Greetings. Isn't all this a bit much? He's known for being a boxer. How many more products (and their flavours.. and their retailers..) do you intend on adding? I know they're all sourced per WP:PROMO, but the sheer amount of them with their minutae is a bit.. advert'y. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 22:16, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Mac Dreamstate One more, which is the reason I started adding them all in the first place, once I've looked through the best sources to use, probably later tonight, or early tomorrow. Danstarr69 (talk) 22:24, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Mac Dreamstate also being a boxer is irrelevant. He's a businessman too now, and businessmen can have have articles too if they're notable.
It's like another person I stumbled across tonight, who used to be a Rugby League player, but is now an actor and businessman. I recognise his face very well, although I have no idea where from, as I barely watch Rugby League, and I've not seen most of the productions he's appeared in for years (although I've probably seen his face many times on IMDB when contributing). He's set up a fish and chip shop, and is on the board of the Rugby League club just up the road from me, so I might add that info too.
However I bet there will be some people saying "We don't need to know about his life outside of Rugby League, as that's all he should be known for"
...just like most people seem to be like on articles about footballers. Any personal information about their life outside of football they deem it to be irrelevant, yet the same can't be said for articles on people like actors.
Personal life and business ventures only seem to be irrelevant when it comes to sports stars. Danstarr69 (talk) 22:40, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's not the endorsements themselves with which I have any issue. All manner of athletes have those. It's just that the level of miniscule detail regarding flavours and retailers looks majorly like cruft and advertising. Could the content not be simplified to the names of the products and what they are, rather than listing all the flavours and where to buy them? Mac Dreamstate (talk) 22:47, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Mac Dreamstate there's only a few retailers....
Iceland being his main partner. Amazon being an online seller. Asda possibly another partner, although there's not much info on that. Plus one or two more independent online retailers, other than his own.
I've mentioned 3 - Iceland, Amazon and Asda.
As far as I can see, there's just 5 drinks flavours, 2 sugar-free versions of those same flavours, 4 ice lollies in the same flavours as the drinks, 1 flavour of gum, and 2 flavours of protein bars, so...
Just 8 unique flavours in total. Not massive is it? Danstarr69 (talk) 22:57, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
But why must the flavours and sugar-frees and retailers be mentioned at all? It's enough that the reader knows he has a product(s) out. That should be sufficient for an encyclopaedia. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 23:11, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Mac Dreamstate Why not?
Every flavour is listed on every food product article.
And someone who popped into my head straight away when you mentioned retailers is Levi Roots with his Reggae Reggae Sauce.
Sainsbury's is specifically mentioned as the main retailer. Other retailers like Morrisons, along with various other brands like Subway and Birds Eye are then listed as companies also using or selling his sauce.
Why is mentioning flavours/retailers of a boxers food and drink brand, any different to mentioning the flavours/retailers of a chefs food and drink brand?
It isn't, but as I said, sports stars articles are always treated different to articles on people like actors, which is why I prefer IMDB to Wikipedia...
...as you can mention as much "irrelevant" stuff as you want in their biographies or trivia sections, along with adding any link you want to their external sites, although I mainly just stick to adding social media profiles, all of which I archive before, and after adding them just in case they go missing, especially ones which contain their filmographies, especially when productions are missing from their profiles. There's always productions missing from people's profiles, although they're usually short films. Danstarr69 (talk) 23:57, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Alhambras[edit]

Please note that the entries on the dab page Alhambra (disambiguation) should be the titles of the articles, except for formatting. If you think some of the Alhambras should have different article titles, please move them or use the WP:Requested Move system to discuss a move. Bradford Alhambra certainly seems misnamed: Alhambra Theatre, Bradford (currently a redirect) would probably be a better title. (Not "The Alhambra Theatre, Bradford", because on its own website it doesn't capitalise "The"). In fact as that redirect doesn't have any history beyond being created, it would be possible just to move the article across to that title. ... On second thoughts, I've gone ahead and moved it. Edit warring[edit]

Stop icon

Your recent editing history shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war; read about how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. - SchroCat (talk) 16:46, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Introduction to contentious topics[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to discussions about infoboxes and to edits adding, deleting, collapsing, or removing verifiable information from infoboxes, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

I have been blocked for pointing out that admins refuse to follow guidelines or consensus.[edit]

In my ED Berman discussion from 2023, I proved without doubt that E. D. Berman is called ED Berman.

I also linked to the policies which showed the Americanisms can be overruled.

And when someone pointed out that other British articles like J. K. Rowling are also Americanised, I again proved without doubt that British people refer to her as JK Rowling, as the English language does not use full stops in acronyms.

Still, I lost the argument, so I gave up.

In the 2024 George Formby infobox debate, it showed a clear majority in 2014 and 2022 wanted the infobox.

Only 2 people disagreed, and one of those people was the person who removed the infobox in the first place, because he doesn't like "idiot boxes" as he calls them.

That person has now had me blocked by people who ignored the 2022 consensus, and removed the infobox again claiming it's the "status quo" despite the 2022 consensus. Danstarr69 (talk) 18:05, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
