Montreal question

[edit]

While I've found numerous valid sources for the statement that alderman Joseph Schubert temporarily served as acting mayor of Montreal in 1927, I can't find a source which explains why the city needed an acting mayor in the first place. Specifically, I can't find any sources which explain what, if anything, would have interrupted Médéric Martin's term in office. Do you have any insight into this, or any access to sources which might explain it in more depth? Bearcat (talk) 22:38, 16 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I tried looking for sources as well but I turned up nothing. Joseph Schubert is mentioned in a surprisingly small number of places. If the archives of the Montreal Star were posted online, we might have more luck. While it appears he was appointed to the position in August 1927, this article on the city of Montreal's website mentions Martin being at the inauguration of a public bath on August 31, 1927. I'm wondering if Schubert was actually appointed as mayor Pro tempore (known in French as a "pro-maire" or "maire suppléant") rather than as an acting mayor. According to the Quebec Cities and Towns Act (# 56, 57) all municipalities are required to have a pro-mayor at all times. I don't know if this was the case in 1927 though.--MTLskyline (talk) 02:37, 17 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I think you just might be right about that. In my search I did also find a news blurb from a Montreal newspaper (can't remember which one offhand) about Schubert's initial appointment as "acting mayor" after another councillor, J.B. Rochon, stepped down from the position — which implies that it was a constant position rather than a temporary one, and thus since there's still no evidence that Martin was not performing the role of mayor at the time it seems very plausible indeed that maybe it was actually an inaccurate or misleading terminology for what we today would call a mayor pro tem or a deputy mayor. Orphaned non-free media (File:Lasalle College logo .jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Lasalle College logo .jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. A tag has been placed on File:CL e-cmyk gif.gif requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Saint-Jérôme AMT Template

[edit]

Hi MTLskyline, could you fix the template for the Saint-Jérôme Line? Vaudreuil-Hudson's and Candiac's colored squares are stuck together, and Candiac is listed as Delson-Candiac. Thanks! P-S: I wonder, since it is not that far from Montreal, how is Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu not part of the Montreal CMA? Mtlfiredude (talk) 22:51, 26 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, unfortunately I am not sure how to edit route templates. Did you try asking Secondarywaltz? I did correct Delson-Candiac to Candiac however.
Regarding Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, it is not included in the Montreal Census Metropolitan Area by Statistics Canada because it has its own Census Agglomeration. StatCan defines CMAs based upon commuting patterns. Since St-Jean is considered a CA in its own right, in order to join the Montreal CMA it would have to have a proportion of at least 35% of its employed labour force commuting to and from the Montreal CMA. You can see StatCan's definition of CMA here (along with the formula they use): [1].--MTLskyline (talk) 04:26, 27 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Rivière des Prairies

[edit]

Your editing of Rivière des Prairies has mixed up many of the references that support the text. I do not appreciate having to redo/recheck the references.--Mark v1.0 (talk) 15:19, 13 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Embedding external links in the body of the article is against policy. I converted the external links to references. If you do not want to have to recheck your references, I suggest entering them properly. I've had to clean up a fair number of your edits. --MTLskyline (talk) 17:20, 13 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I recognize you did fix the links to the historical maps, thank you. We are both trying to make the article better I believe. I apologize if I offended you, I was in a bad mood when I wrote my complaint. Yes I started the problem with improper references. I do not know the proper HTML "ref" syntax to cite the government websites as references. At this time the references have no description.--Mark v1.0 (talk) 11:56, 14 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Don't worry about it, most registered users here edit in good faith. I appreciate your additions of references to the articles. The easiest way to add references is to click the "Cite" button in the editing toolbar, then in the "Templates" drop down menu, select "cite web". It gives you a bunch of fields to fill out, and you can input whatever information you know. It also automatically adds the ref tags around the information you input. If you want to use the same source more than once in the article, you can place the shorthand version each time: <ref name=NameofReference" /> (more information here). Here is the template it uses if you prefer to enter it manually, or if you want to know what the various parameters are for. --MTLskyline (talk) 05:42, 16 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for accepting my apology and the information on the "ref". --Mark v1.0 (talk) 15:12, 31 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. isaute page questions?

[edit]

Hey I am a new editor to Wikipedia so I was wondering if you could tell me what the problem is with the page you reviewed? Your log didn't include a lot of information so I just wanted to check :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hargb91 (talkcontribs) 07:55, 16 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for contributing to Wikipedia! The ISaute page has relatively few issues for a new article. Generally speaking, when making an article about a business it is important to prove that it is notable as per WP:COMPANY. There is not much of a precedent for trampoline parks having articles. However, I'm leaning toward it being notable, since it is the only one of its kind in Quebec, and is mentioned by various secondary sources you linked to. You could improve it by using the Cite web tool (located in the editing toolbox) to specify when each source was used. Let me know if you have any questions or need any help!--MTLskyline (talk) 06:43, 20 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Mount Bruno Golf Club

[edit]

Having read the description of this club, and that it is one of the country's most exclusive clubs, I'm doubtful that it's a "Visitor attraction in Monteregie". Very few people see it. PKT(alk) 16:04, 19 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You are probably right. I included it because Category:Golf clubs and courses in Canada is listed under Category:Visitor attractions in Canada and figured that the same would apply to the individual golf club articles. However, as you say, it is generally closed to the public, with even their website requiring a log in. I think I'll remove the category for now.--MTLskyline (talk) 06:50, 20 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Bishops Coat of Arms.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Bishops Coat of Arms.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 15:53, 18 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Skyline pic

[edit]

Hey MTLskyline, just wanted to know if you planned on taking another Montreal skyline pic from the Champlain Bridge this summer? It should be interesting with the appearance of Altoria and a part of Deloitte, plus with the Marriott Courtyard being nearly completed! Mtlfiredude (talk) 15:59, 12 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hey SkahHigh/Mtlfiredude. I will definitely take a shot from the Champlain this summer some time (probably on some weekend, and once the traffic/repairs have died down a bit). Another good spot is from the AMT Mont-Saint-Hilaire line. I take that into work every day (great views!), however, I would only use my phone for that. --MTLskyline (talk) 21:52, 18 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Terminus Centre-Ville

[edit]

Hi there! I noticed that one of the many edits you made on the Terminus Centre-Ville page was the ridership info in the infobox. However, the link ended up in ERROR, so I deleted it. Furthermore, the source was no longer available. I found the new address for the source, but 1) I don't understand the link structure you've used; and 2) the ridership info ("performance indicators") refer to 'terminus' in a very general way, it's not clear if this refers to the Downtown Terminal, all the terminals on the Chevrier bus route or all terminals of the AMT in general. Hence, I prefered to delete it for now. If you have more info regarding the ridership, please add it! Thanks! Jurjenb (talk) 20:02, 8 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Courtyard Marriott Montreal Centre-Ville. Since you had some involvement with the Courtyard Marriott Montreal Centre-Ville redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion if you have not already done so. --BDD (talk) 19:58, 20 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. New 10,000 Challenge for Canada

[edit]

Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Canada/The 10,000 Challenge is up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge for the UK which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. If you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Canada like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1600 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for Canada but fuelled by a contest such as The North America Destubathon to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. I would like some support from Canadian wikipedians here to get the Challenge off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile! Cheers. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:55, 22 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I recently removed a speedy delete tag that you had placed on Rive-Sud Express. I do not think that Rive-Sud Express fits any of the speedy deletion criteria  because A newspaper is a business, but also a creative work, and as such, out of scope for A7. I request that you consider not re-tagging Rive-Sud Express for speedy deletion without discussing the matter on the appropriate talk page. Notice

The article Jamie Orchard has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Notability not established. Subject is a local news anchorperson, albeit in a sizeable city. Should have some independent reliable sources to show notability.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. — Fourthords | =Λ= | 00:18, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
