Vilcas Huamán (from Quechua Willka Waman) is a province in the eastern part of the Ayacucho Region in Peru.

Political division
[edit]The province is divided into eight districts (Spanish: distritos, singular: distrito), each of which is headed by a mayor (alcalde). The districts, with their capitals in parentheses, are:

Ethnic groups
[edit]The people in the province are mainly indigenous citizens of Quechua descent. Quechua is the language which the majority of the population (89.62%) learnt to speak in childhood, 10.06% of the residents started speaking using the Spanish language (2007 Peru Census).[2]
Archaeology
[edit]Some of the most important archaeological sites in the province are Usnu, Inti Watana, Pilluchu, Pukara and Puntay Urqu.
