The 2005 North Texas Mean Green football team represented the University of North Texas in the 2005 NCAA Division I-A football season as a member of the Sun Belt Conference. Led by eighth-year head coach Darrell Dickey, North Texas finished with an overall record of 2–9, going 2–5 in conference play, marking the first time the Mean Green were not named conference champions or co-champions since they joined the Sun Belt. The loss to Troy also marked the first time North Texas lost a conference game since October 6, 2001.

Schedule

[edit]

The team played two games that were rescheduled from their planned dates. The season opener was originally scheduled for September 3 against LSU, but due to aftereffects of Hurricane Katrina was moved to October 29. As a result, the Louisiana–Monroe game on that date was moved to November 19.
