The Cubs finished the 2024 season 83–79 to finish in second place in the Central division, 10 games behind the Brewers. It marked the fourth consecutive season they failed to make the playoffs.

On October 1, 2024, the Cubs fired hitting coach Jim Adduci, third base coach Mike Napoli, and bullpen coach Darren Holmes.
