Education and professional career

[edit]

Alberto Joseph Safra studied at Wharton, the business school of the University of Pennsylvania in the United States. At the age of 24, he started working for the Safra Group and was appointed by his father[1] to found Banco J. Safra.

Later, after his father bought 100% of Banco Safra, J. Safra was incorporated into Safra. At Safra, Alberto took over commercial banking in Brazil[2], where from an early age he demonstrated the talent passed on from his ancestors for granting credit and, most importantly, identifying risk and collecting debts. In 2019, Alberto chose to leave the Bank's management[3] and his position on the Board to devote himself to the creation of ASA.

ASA was founded by Alberto in 2020, initially acting as an investment fund manager, distributed by different investment platforms and Brazilian banks. Since then, Alberto has acquired other companies and integrated them into ASA, in a growing process of transformation, which culminated in 2024 in the consolidation of the company as a financial institution.

Today, with 18 offices in the main Brazilian capitals, as well as a presence abroad in Miami and New York, ASA offers a wide range of services to high-income, corporate and institutional clients in a fast, flexible, effective and personalized manner.

2024 was also marked by a personally relevant event. After years of legal disputes Alberto reached an amicable settlement with his family. According to the agreement, Alberto will disassociate himself from the J. Safra Group in order to maintain operations at the financial institution ASA[4].

The family said in a statement that they were happy to put the matter behind them, and the resolution they have reached will allow each member of the family to pursue their business interests in a way that helps ensure that everyone's success is a source of shared satisfaction.
