Bahrāmcha (Pashto/Dari: بھرامچه; Balochi Dari: بھرام چاه) is the center of Dishu District in the southern part of Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

History

[edit]

Bahramcha is a town in Dishu District, Helmand Province, near the border with Pakistan. Since the beginning of the 21st century, the town has expanded over 2 km into Pakistani territory.

Taliban

[edit]

During the War in Afghanistan (2001–2021), Bahramcha was used by the Taliban to export poppy to Pakistan for processing, becoming an important center of the Helmand opium trade. 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance killed over 100 Taliban fighters during a raid in 2011, which badly crippled that trade.[2]
