Category:Public Works of Art Project

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Public Works of Art Project (1933–1934) was the first visual arts program of the Great Depression-era New Deal in the United States. It was a "First New Deal" program to employ artists, funded by the Civil Works Administration, and headed by Edward Bruce under the United States Treasury Department. It was succeeded by the Treasury Department's Section of Painting and Sculpture and the Treasury Relief Art Project.

A comparable but distinctly separate program, the Federal Art Project, operated under the Work Projects Administration.
