Hi! Thanks for the reply; I just need some assistance getting all the inline skating stuff in order. I am trying to give it a less ambiguous representation here on Wikipedia because a lot of it is all over the place. There are professional aggressive inline skaters in the Rollerskater category when there is an obvious difference between skating Quad (2 row) and inline (single row) skates.

Inline skaters are sub-category of inline skating which is a subcategory of Roller Sports which includes both Rollerskating, inline skating, skateboarding and a list of others. Furthermore there are inline skater subcategories: Hockey, Speed, Aggressive. There is 'also' an Aggressive skating category, which should be a subcategory of Inline skating. So the help I need is with getting it all moved I guess. As I have never done a category before, so any help would be a big help.Geosak (talk) 21:30, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

OK, what exactly needs to be done? To make this a subcategory of another category, add this category as a category to the category that you want this to be the subcategory of (how many times have I said "category"?) The inline skater subcategories: Hockey, Speed, Aggressive may be Wikipedia:Overcategorization, unless there are a significant (I'd say <50) number of articles that would fit into them. Its only 4 sub-categories of inline skating that are legit because of a clear distinction in industry, products, culture, etc. Also they should have their own subcategories because, for example, Speed is considered for the Olympics, Hockey skaters are basically Ice hockey players who train on inline skates in the off season, and Aggressive skaters are the 'urban warriors' of the inline skate. Everyone else falls collectively under the umbrella term 'recreational' or fitness skaters, or simply 'inline skaters' of no specialization lets say. It doesn't get silly like "one skate wearing star fish stance underwater sack race skating". As an industry we pretty much got it all together at this point in time. Just trying to reflect that, ya know, on the Wiki! Thanks I'll get categorizing, then I plan to go through and stick the category tag to pages that are relevant to inline skating. I'm just looking for best practice guidance which is not always available in the 'how to' pages. What I would like 'exactly' if its possible, is to setup a Wiki project for Aggressive inline skating which I have a lot of resources for, and somehow link this to inline skating category of Wiki pages, in the hope that my speed and hockey counter parts will follow our example. Furthermore I do believe that roller sport should be a category and not a page. These would make me happy for now. Geosak (talk) 21:57, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

Sorry it took me a while to respond; it's been a busy week for me. A WikiProject takes a lot of work to set up and maintain, and interest in it tends to not last very long (I speak from firsthand experience), and I'm not sure the scope is large enough. I don't mean to discourage you, but I don't think it's worth the effort. Now if there are other interested editors that are keen in collaborating on this topic, go for it! I can help set it up; I have experience in task forces and WikiProjects from being an active member of and helping to maintain both the Percy Jackson task force and WikiProject Apple Inc.. As for the article roller sport, it does need a ton of work but does have some useful content that would not be suitable for a category. In my opinion, your best bet would be to expand and flesh out the article. Looks like you already created Category:Roller sport anyways :). Agreed with what Airplaneman said. WikiProjects are a pain to keep going. However, if you feel so inclined, I've already gone through the trouble of creating an Extreme Sports WikiProject, which has long since been abandoned.
