Dardania Sport were an Albanian women's professional football club based in Tropojë. They last competed in Kategoria Superiore Femra during the 2013–14 season, finishing at the bottom table, in a ten-team league.[1]

History

[edit]

The northeastern town of Tropojë, once home to the Valbona men's football team of Bajram Curri, had now embraced women's football with the establishment of Dardania Sport. An initiative which began on March 22, 2008, led by local coach Hamit Balaj, who created Tropojë's first-ever girls’ football team, named Dardania, in tribute to the region's renowned musical ensemble.

Due to Tropojë's lack of sports infrastructure, Dardania had to play its home matches in Tirana, just like the volleyball team Minatori and the men's football team Kukësi had faced similar challenges. Breaking regional stereotypes and paving the way for women's football, Dardania Sport participated in the inaugural women's football championship in 2009, alongside seven other pioneering clubs, marking the beginning of a new chapter for women's football in Albania.

With modest results, Dardania had nurtured several talented players over the years. Among them Megi Doçi, a national champion and a regular on the Albania national team, Endrina Elezaj, Sadije Koçi and many others.[2]
