Abhishek Reddy Kankanala is a businessman and entrepreneur who currently serves as the Chairman of the Kankanala Sports Group as well as DevPixel, a private IT firm.[1] Through the Kankanala Sports Group, he owns several sports franchises across a variety of sporting disciplines[2], such as INDE Racing in the FIM E-Xplorer World Cup, Hyderabad Black Hawks in the Prime Volleyball League, Telugu Talons in the Premier Handball League and Bengaluru Raptors in the Premier Badminton League. In 2021, he co-founded Whizzy, a delivery logistics company that connects human riders with hyperlocals in 16 cities all over India.

Career[edit]

Abhishek Reddy Kankanala is presently the chairman of the Kankanala Sports Group, a renowned sports management firm from Hyderabad, and is also the Chairman and managing director of an IT firm called DevPixel. He owns several sports teams, namely the Hyderbad Black Hawks the Telugu Talons as well as INDE Racing, India's first-ever FIM-licensed team. He also co-owns the Bengaluru Raptors and the Bengaluru Brawlers. In March 2021, Abhishek Reddy Kankanala co-founded Whizzy, a delivery logistics company that connects human riders with hyperlocals in 16 cities all over India.[3]

Kankanala Sports Group[edit]

Abhishek Reddy Kankanala became the chairman of the Kankanala Sports Group in 2023, a Hyderabad based sports management firm dedicated to developing sport at the grassroots level in India. KSG operates a diverse portfolio of sports franchises featuring prominent clubs in the Prime Volleyball League, the Premier Handball League, the Premier Badminton League as well as the FIM E-Xplorer World Cup.

Hyderabad Black Hawks[edit]

Abhishek Reddy Kankanala officially claimed ownership of the Hyderabad based volleyball franchise in 2019, after which they featured in their first full season in 2022. Vijay Devarakonda later joined as a co-owner, purchasing a minority stake in the franchise.

As part of their commitment to developing sport at the grassroots level in India, the Hyderabad Black Hawks hosted the VD Black Hawks Open '24, which provided a platform for several rural volleyball players in the Telugu speaking states of India. The final of the VD Black Hawks Open '24 was held in the Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad.[4]

INDE Racing[edit]

Early in 2024, Abhishek Reddy Kankanala officially announced the launch of INDE Racing, an e-motocross racing team that competes in the FIM E-Xplorer World Cup.[5] INDE Racing is India's only representative team at the competition and is also India's first-ever FIM licensed team. They also became the first Indian team to record a podium finish in the FIM E-Xplorer World Cup, when they finished third in Osaka.[6]

INDE Racing also took part in a historic collaboration between FIM and Formula-E that saw them demonstrate their EV technology at the Misano E-Prix. Abhishek Reddy Kankanala has constantly stated his desire for the complete electrification of the automobile industry, which he hopes to achieve through INDE Racing.[7]

Telugu Talons[edit]

The Telugu Talons are a professional men's handball team representing the Telugu speaking states of India in the Premier Handball League. In April of 2023, Abhishek Reddy Kankanala officially announced the launch of the Telugu Talons ahead of the inaugural auction of the Premier Handball League.[8] The team finished third in the maiden season of the Premier Handball League.

Bengaluru Raptors[edit]

The Bengaluru Raptors are a professional badminton team, representing Bengaluru in the Premier Badminton League. The team last competed in 2020 and have won the competition twice in their history. Abhishek Reddy Kankanala officially joined as a co-owner of the Bengaluru Raptors in January, 2018.

Whizzy[edit]

Whizzy is a delivery logistics company that connects riders to hyperlocals. At present Whizzy has operations in 16 cities all over India. Abhishek Reddy Kankanala co-founded Whizzy in March, 2021, with the aim to spark an electric revolution in the delivery industry.[9]

In 2024, Whizzy were honoured with two awards at the zero day event for their environmental contributions.

DevPixel[edit]

DevPixel is a design-driven Salesforce company focusing on customer-centred design and development. Abhishek Reddy currently serves as the chairman and managing director of the company.
