Angry Demon Studio is a Swedish independent video game developer based in Skövde,.[1] co-founded by Caroline Petri, William Sahl and John Kalderon. The company primarily associates itself with horror and adrenaline-filled experiences. Their debut game, Unforgiving: A Northern Hymn, was released in November 2017 for Windows.

History

[edit]

All three founder studied at the university of Skövde. The developers came from different parts of the country such as Helsingborg, Stenungsund and Nyköping[2].

During their second year at the university, Kalderon and four other students decided to present the project as part of a course. After the project was approved, twelve students joined the team, including William Sahl and Caroline Petri, who continue to work in the studio today.

In their third year at the institute, the developers began creating their first game based on Scandinavian mythology, which eventually became their debut project. Upon completion of the game's development, the team founded Angry Demon Studio and participated in the Sweden Game Startup program, where they spent their first three years as full-time game developers[3]. In the course of their work, the studio developed a variety of games, including horror projects and Scandinavian mythology-themed games. The developers gained a lot of valuable knowledge while working at Skövde Science Park and participating in the startup program and soon moved to its own office in Skövde.

Before the development of the second game has even started, other two developer leave the studio. So there are 3 people left in the studio, who are currently developing the games.

Games

[edit]

Unforgiving: A Northern Hymn

[edit]

Survival horror game heavily inspired by Swedish folklore and Norse mythology.[4] There are no combat in the game, most enemies can be bypassed using stealth[5]. Much of the game is tied up in exploring linear sections or open areas and solving puzzles. One of the game's mechanics is playing a magical harp, the strings of which are certain Norse runes[6]. Published by studio itself and available only on Windows platform. Released on 27 November 2017.

Apsulov: End of Gods

[edit]

Second first-person survival horror game developed by Angry Demon Studio. The game is also based on Norse mythology with a dash of technological and biological horror, but with a dash of science fiction. One of the mechanics of the game is the presence of a mechanical arm that allows you to interact with electronics remotely by sending impulses. As you progress through the game, you can defend yourself against enemies by creating a charged blast[7] Released on 8 August 2019.

Gori: Cuddly Carnage

[edit]

Hack and slash action-adventure video game based on platforming and combat. The studio's largest and longest running game at the moment. Stylistically, the game differs significantly from the previous two: it is saturated with colors and scenes with blood, has a dynamic soundtrack and a huge number of obscene expressions and jokes. When creating the game, the developers tried to bring action and violence to the game, but keep the horror elements intact. Released on 29 August 2024.
