History

[edit]

The Ansaris of Yusufpur are descended from the Sufi saint of Herat Abdullah Ansari through his son Khwaja Abdurrahman.[4] 24 generations after Khwaja Abdurahman his descendants, Khwaja Najmuddin Siraj, Khwaja Mobin and Khwaja Mohammad Hayat joined the Mughal emperor Babur in his conquest for India. The family migrated to India along with the Mughals in the year 1526 after the Battle of Panipat.[5] In 1540 eldest brother, Khwaja Najmuddin Siraj was made Qazi of the district of Yusufpur by the emperor Humayun. After the death of Khwaja Namjuddin Siraj, his son Qazi Yusuf was made Qazi by Akbar in the year 1568. Qazi Yusuf is seen as the common ancestor of all the Ansaris of Yusufpur. He had 6 sons with the oldest being Qazi Ahmed. The line of Qazis continued till 1857.[6][7]
