A South African band with six members: Alpheus Mofokeng (lead vocals), Thomas Tladi (guitar), Innocent Hala (keyboards), Diliza Maneli (keyboards), Bonakele Mbambisa (keyboards) and Skipper Shabalala (guitar).[1]
The name ‘Ashiko’ translates to “world of time”, and may have been influenced by Hugh Masekela's cover of OJ Ekemonde’s ‘Ashiko’ on The Boy’s Doin’ It (1975).[2]
The band was signed to Teal Records.
Ashiko has been categorised under labels such as African disco, R&B, bubblegum soul, synth, boogie and champeta.
