Metyr, Mother of Fingers
First gameElden Ring's DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree
Created byHidetaka Miyazaki and George R. R. Martin

Metyr, Mother of Fingers is a boss in a downloadable content or DLC of Elden Ring called Shadow of the Erdtree. In particular, she is optional and is of the type legend. She is the first shooting star sent by the Greater Will to spread its guidance through the Two Fingers,[1] and she delivers one of the biggest plot twists in the game, following this in the lore section. She is massive and has a unique appearance with fingers all around her body. She has a lot of deadly attacks just as any boss of this type should and is very tanky. Players can fight her in Finger Ruins of Miyr after completing a section of Count Ymir's questline.[2] Metyr has a total health of 43,296 which is a lot and drops a total of 420,000 runes and Remembrance of the Mother of Fingers that can be used to get more runes or exchanged with a powerful item with Finger Reader, Enia at the Roundtable Hold after defeated. Note that her health goes up to 67,938, and 1,076,000 for the runes if one plays the seventh time of both New Game Plus and DLC Plus. Metyr is stronger against attacks of types magic, fire, lightning, and holy. The fight has 2 phases in which she fights with both melee attacks like slams and ranged attacks like laser beams.[3] Players could summon allies to help with the battle. She is also weaker to attacks of type slash and bleed, otherwise known as blood loss or hemorrhage. She is immune to madness, sleep, and death blight.

Lore

[edit]

Metyr is a daughter of the Greater Will and was the first shooting star to land in the Lands Between even before the age of the Golden Order, Marika's ascent to godhood, and the Elden Beast. Just as the name suggests, she is the mother of all Two Fingers and Fingercreepers. She receives guidance from the Greater Will and spreads it through the Two Fingers. However, one day, when the Greater Will decided to leave the land and abandon it, the messages disappeared. She continues to wait for very long. Yet, even the day we defeat her, they never return.[1] What this means is that what the Two Fingers was telling everyone is false and the Golden Order is based on nonsense that didn't come from the Greater Will as everyone thought which is a great twist of the story. This is what drives Sir Gideon Ofnir, the All-Knowing to fight players in the main game. This also explains what he said about the Two Fingers losing their purpose long ago. Some people suggest that she didn't die from the fight and just teleported away. If that's true, there might be more to uncover later.[1]

Appearance

[edit]

Metyr is gigantic, with a couple of arms in the front, numerous fingers throughout her body, and lots of small fingers bunched into her stomach.

Habitat

[edit]

Metyr can be found in the Finger Ruins of Miyr, located in an underground vault below Count Ymir’s throne in the Cathedral of Manus Metyr in Scadu Altus.[4] To visit the cathedral, players must go through Bonny Village which requires the Moorth Ruins to arrive, and then the woods later on.[5] Once arriving, players encounter Ymir,[5] the high priest, sitting on the throne, where the entrance to the Finger Ruins of Miyr is below. Players can explore the Finger Ruins of Miyr only after touching the throne without Ymir sitting on it.[4] To activate the scenario, players need to converse with him and accomplish his quests which paves the way to Metyr. During the questline, 3 ruins maps, are given to have players ring three bells sequentially triggering Metyr to make her appearance at the Finger Ruins of Miyr.[2]
