The PH-BUK is a Boeing 747 aircraft that was manufactured and delivered by Boeing Commercial Airplanes to KLM in 1978, who christened it "Louis Blériot" [1]. Since 2004, this aircraft has been exhibited on the outdoor grounds of Lelystad Aerodrome to visitors.

Naming

[edit]

KLM Boeing 747s with registration numbers beginning with BU either bore river names or names of aviation pioneers. The Jumbo Jets with river names were full passenger versions. These were BUA through BUG and also BUO, BUP and BUR. The remaining aircraft with names of aviation pioneers were all Combi versions . These were from BUH to BUN and from BUT to BUW. The PH-BUK is therefore a “Combi”. The name honors Louis Blériot , a French aircraft builder and pilot who was the first to cross the English Channel by plane in 1909.
