Shorts Wars (also known as The YouTube Shorts Wars or The Shorts Wars ARG) was an alternate reality game that took place between July 16, 2023[1] to July 28, 2024[2] on YouTube. It was a collaboration between several YouTubers (specifically, YouTube Shorts creators), including Jonny RaZeR, Danno Cal Drawings, Joe Caine, Phaleur, RoyalPear, BunDun, BamBaeOh, cdotkom, and Mogswamp. The ARG consists of a masked figure using clones of the YouTube Shorts creators in the ARG to take over the world by conquering YouTube Shorts.
Plot

[edit]The first season of Shorts Wars started on July 16, 2023 with a YouTube Short uploaded to Jonny RaZeR's, Danno Cal Drawings', Joe Caine's, RoyalPear's, BunDun's, and Phaleur's channels, following the styles and topics of each YouTuber. Exactly 23 seconds into each YouTube Short, a QR code (accompanied by a glitching effect and a sound effect) briefly appears, muting all other sound in YouTube Short. After exactly 1 second, the QR code disappears, the audio gets unmuted, and the video returns back to normal as if the glitch never happened.[1][3][4][5][6][7]
The QR code in the videos redirect to an unlisted video called "Message.mp4,"[8] which contains the masked figure ordering eight YouTube Shorts creators (the six YouTubers who uploaded a video on July 16th, Mogswamp, and knsplash) to stop uploading on YouTube Shorts to be spared from being "replaced." Mogswamp and knsplash obeyed the masked figure by no longer uploading YouTube Shorts (for the remainder of Season 1).
