The Bonnie Nettles |
---|
The Bonnie Nettles is an Greek Indie / Neo-Psych band from Athens Greece formed in 2016. The band consists of Dennis Lounges (Vocals), Anestis Nine (Guitar), John Patsis (Drums), Vagelis Falliera Karampelas (Percussions), John Damianos (Bass), Sarantos Papadimitriou (Guitar/Vocals), and Constantine Rammos (Piano/Synth).[1]
Initially called "Bonnies", the band started as a group of 5 with Vagelis being a friend and helping in sound engineering of the band and later being the main percussionist and performing at the front side of stage. Later after their first album "The Bonnie Nettles", Rammos joined as the first member playing keys for the band and leading their music development in a new era.[2]
In 2019 the first album "The Bonnie Nettles" was released on "Blackspin Records" in a tough period of quarantine. In 2023 they completed their first European Tour and currently they are working on the second album to be released in late 2024.[3]
The History
[edit]The band started as jam group with Anestis Nine , John Patsis and the former members of the group in 2015 without any name or original recordings. The band needed a vocalist and the form of the band changes while Anestis suggested Dennis to be the main vocalist and give a unique character to the band.[4]
Some of the most preponderant band names where "The Sungazing After Dark" and "Psychic Lozenges" but "The Bonnie Nettles" was the last call and so named after a character of the book "Notorious Killer Cult Leaders" which was co-founder and co-leader of the Heaven's Gate new religious movement.[5]
2015–2016: Intro
[edit]Not long after, the band started to synthesize their original songs with the first of them to be "Bonnie" which is included in the first album (4th song) and also "When She's Blue" which was recorded as a demo song in 2016 and uploaded at this form. Since then "When She's Blue" is one of the most popular songs at their shows but never published as official release.
2016–2019: Athens Underground - Born on Road
The Bonnie Nettles started playing in underground scenes of Athens with their first ever gig at K94 which was a basement at Exarcheia area in 2016. Since then, they have captivated audiences with their distinctive blend of psychedelic and pop influences since their debut album received acclaim. [6]
Collaborating with both domestic talents and international artists, such as Ty Segall[7], Motorama[8], Föllakzoid[9], The Asteroid No4[10], The Myrrors[11], Sonic Jesus[12] and others, their upcoming release promises to push boundaries and redefine their sound.
2019–2022: The Bonnie Nettles
"The Bonnie Nettles" album is the debut album of the band, which was recorded(as a first attempt) in 2017 at Zero Gravity Studios[13]. However, after disagreements and disputes between the members of the band, it remained in the archive and was never released. In the following years, the band focused on live performances and composing new songs, some of which were included in their first album, while others remained unreleased and were later released as singles, such as "Would You Marry Me"[14] and "Rave On Love Me" [15](Bonus track in the Vinyl Version)
The sound of the album is a blend of Psychedelic Rock and Indie Pop, eccentric guitar and bass riffs, and a jangly aesthetic that reflects the band's influences from the Madchester scenes.
The album finally was recorded at Suono Studios in Kerameikos, Athens, in 2019, by producer Alex Bolpasis. Released on "Blackspin Records" label in 19th March of 2020.[16]
2022–2023: Sugar Amount
"We're releasing this record right before our EU Tour, during one of our most significant moments. We thoroughly enjoyed this process, and we're thrilled to share our music with the world as much as ever, both on and off the stage."[18]
Sugar Amount is the bands first EP consists of three single records , "Blowing Hearts", "Sanguine Pool", "Adorable" and a bonus live version of "Trip off the map / Jangle" recorded at Six Dogs Club while in quarantine (2021).[18]
"Bowing Hearts" and "Adorable" constitute the first records released by the band through official music videos in 2022 and 2023, respectively. The video clip of "Blowing Hearts" was produced by Vaggelis Martinos and Yiannis Michelopoulos [19]and the video clip of "Adorable" was produced by Bewild Brother.[20]
2023-2024: Second Coming and the Echoes of Europe
In 2023, the band embarked on its first European tour[21], thereby closing the chapter of their debut album. Since the beginning of 2023 up until today, they have already released three singles[22], comprising the EP "Sugar Amount," which was released in digital format and on cassette in 2023 as an independent band, no longer affiliated with any label.
