Xiaomi HyperOS is a mobile operating system developed by Xiaomi, it supersedes MIUI, and is designed to enhance the performance and user experience across a range of devices. It is based on Android for smartphones and incorporates Xiaomi’s Vela for smart devices (IoT)[1].

HyperOS also introduces smoother animations, faster boot times for applications, and improved retention of apps in background memory. While it does not make major visual changes to the UI, users can expect minor tweaks and new customization options for the lock screen.

With HyperOS, Xiaomi wants to make a "Human x Car x Home" smart ecosystem.[2] This approach is to create one single operating system that works across different devices and not just smartphones, hence the "Car" and "Home".

New features[edit]

With the first version, Xiaomi aims to improve experience under-the-hood, leaving the UI mostly the same as MIUI to allow for a smooth transition. HyperOS introduced new features, including (according to Xiaomi's website)[2]:

  • Comprehensive refactoring
  • Extremely lightweight filesystem
  • Improved OTA storage and performance for lightweight devices
  • More support for different platforms and better compatibility with 20+ filesystems
  • Less storage footprint (the OS takes less space than MIUI)
  • Lock screen customization (like iOS)
  • New render pipeline to better support the new customizations for the lock screen
  • Better multitasking
  • MiSans font, which was previously only available on Chinese ROMs
