Hi Wikipedia folks,

I have been working on this page to provide an objective overview of the GearLab review websites.

I had not intended to submit it yet for review.

I am not an experienced author of content on Wikipedia, but have been doing my best to ensure the article is supported by independent citations.

The history of the GearLab websites is interesting to members of the public since it was the first website to focus on providing side-by-side comparison reviews of products used for outdoor activities, and evolved from work originally focused on rock climbing gear. The GearLab websites are popular today, with about 40 million visiting them each year, but not many people know the story of how the review sites evolved from early work creating recommended gear lists for rock climbing equipment and expanded over time to cover a wide range of consumer product review categories.

I have tried to study the Wikipedia pages for other review websites which are covered on Wikipedia such as Consumer Reports, VeryWell, TechRadar, CNET, Good Housekeeping, and Outside (magazine).

I am a co-founder of the GearLab websites, which I know you don't prefer as an author of a page. However, I believe the information is factual in nature, and interesting to the public. I disclosed that when I clicked to first create the page, so I am hopeful you saw that and do not feel I have been trying to do anything under the table.

Regards,

P.S. I would be happy to remove any and all links to the GearLab websites. I included several for informational purposes, but they are not necessary to tell the story. And, I assume all those links are noindex, so they do not provide any SEO benefit to the site.
If you would prefer, I could easily limit the citations to only external sources of information if you feel that would be more appropriate. Rspurrie (talk) 16:13, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
P.P.S. I have engaged in a major edit to bring this content into compliance. I believe is provides an objective presentation of information about GearLab, with a factually accurate history including multiple citations. I hope you will consider this information appropriate for Wikipedia. Thanks for your consideration. rjs Rspurrie (talk) 23:44, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
