"Dushtu Kokil" is a popular song from the film Toofan (2024), directed by Raihan Rafi and starring Shakib Khan, Mimi Chakraborty, Masuma Rahman Nabila, Chanchal Chowdhury. The film was released on Eid-ul-Azha, 17 June 2024.[1] The song was recorded by Selim Reza of Focus Studio, Dhaka, Bangladesh and Rabi Majee of Hanshadhwani Recording Studio, Kolkata, India.[2]

Composition and music

The song "Dushtu Kokil" from the film Toofan (2024) directed by Raihan Rafi, the song was sung by music director and vocalist Akassh Sen and Dilshad Nahar Kona. The lyrics, melody and music of the song were composed by Akassh Sen. The song was performed by Shakib Khan of Bangladesh and Mimi Chakraborty of India in the lead roles in the film.[3][4][5]

Popularity

The song "Dushtu Kokil" started trending soon after its release on YouTube. The song has been viewed 2.5 million times on Chorki's YouTube channel just in 24 hours of release.[2] At that time, the song was ranked among the top trending content on YouTube in Bangladesh. As of August 22, 2024, the song has been viewed more than 131 million times on YouTube.[6][7] The song passed 200 million views just in two months; it is a new record for Bengali film songs.[8]

Sharmistha Ghosal from Indulgexpress wrote that "The song's catchy and irresistible quality has everyone grooving to the beat. The innovative musical compositions, along with the use of various instruments, have given the track significant scope and impact".[9] Shamayita Chakraborty OTTplay from wrote that "The two superhit songs Dushtu Kokil and Laage Uradhura are heights of entertainment".[10] The Business Standard wrote that "The song has already become a super hit among audiences and garnered over one million views on the official YouTube channel of Chorki, one of the co-producers of the film".[11] Towheed Feroze from Prothom Alo wrote that "The song 'Dushtu Kokil' has gone viral on Tik Tok with thousands either lip-syncing with the jazzy number or, dancing to it. Unsurprisingly, 'Dushtu Kokil' has become an integral part of contemporary urban lingo. Denoting mischief with wickedness – this term is being used widely, for a variety of social situations".[12]
