Fictional character biography

[edit]

Erg was a member of the Morlocks, and was one of the few Morlocks to survive the Marauders' attack during the 'Mutant Massacre'.[volume & issue needed] He was also one of the first mutants to seek a safe haven at the Xavier Institute following M-Day, when most mutants lost their powers.[1]

Erg remained at the Xavier Institute with many other mutants, some unwillingly, becoming something of a ringleader for the non-X-Men members of the 198. It was Erg's idea to raise a "198" flag, the number representing what was originally thought to be the number of mutants left in the world after the Decimation.[2] He was also one of a few mutants who attacked Sentinel Squad O*N*E (Office of National Emergency) because they want to leave the Xavier estate. [volume & issue needed]

Erg was also one of the mutants who accepted having an electronic tag inserted to go on a supervised group trip to Salem Center. After learning of their true purpose - generating disabling electronic pulses - Mister M frees the chipped mutants of their devices.[volume & issue needed]

During "The Extremists" arc, Erg reappeared alongside some of his fellow Morlocks under the leadership of Masque. Besides Erg, this group consisted of Bliss, Litterbug, the undercover Skids, and the captured Leech.[3]

During the "Dark Reign" storyline, Erg is captured by Norman Osborn after the riots in San Francisco.[4] He later took refuge on Utopia, and participated in the fight against the attacking Nimrods.[5]

Powers and abilities

[edit]

Erg is a mutant who is able to absorb all forms of energy and project them in blasts from his right eye, which he calls his "electric eye".

In other media

[edit]
  • Erg makes non-speaking appearances in X-Men: The Animated Series as a member of the Morlocks.[citation needed]
  • Erg appears in The Gifted, portrayed by Michael Luwoye.[6] This version is a black mutant separatist and the leader of the Morlocks who possesses an eyepatch over his left eye as well as a self-inflicted M-shaped scar which expresses his mutant pride. Additionally, he and the Morlocks are a neutral group who wish to live in peace.[7][8][9][10] Moreover, he gave Blink her codename.[11]
  • Erg appears in X-Men '97, in which he and the Morlocks move to Genosha before being killed by Sentinels.[12]
