Imogen Walker is a British Labour Party politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Hamilton and Clyde Valley since the 2024 UK general election.[1][2] She is currently a parliamentary private secretary for Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves.[3]
Background
[edit]Prior to her election to parliament, Walker worked as an actor, a political consultant, and a trustee to the RSPCA, the animal welfare charity. She also served as a ward councillor and deputy finance leader for the London Borough of Lambeth.[4] She graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a masters in mental philosophy.
Parliamentary career
[edit]In her first major vote in the House of Commons on July 23, 2024, Walker cast her ballot along party lines to avoid language regarding the two-child benefit cap in the King's Speech, opposing an amendment tabled by the Scottish National Party (SNP).[5] The vote came amid protest from the left of the Labour Party to scrap the restriction on child benefit eligibility, introduced by the Conservative Party in 2017.
Personal life
[edit]She is married to senior Labour Party operative, Morgan McSweeney, the head of political strategy for UK prime minister Keir Starmer. McSweeney and Walker have a son together.[6]
Walker is a landlord and rents out two apartments. [7]
