[edit]How about "Discuss this page."
See Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)#Policy requiring all user interfaces to display talk page links. — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 20:02, 26 August 2021 (UTC)
- Would that really be the best choice on user talk pages, though? Yes, it's same message, and no, parser functions won't work here last I checked. Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 23:52, 26 August 2021 (UTC)
- It is greet text meaning it disappears as soon as the editor starts type - it doesn't have to be a catchy slogan, i.e. it can be longer like a full sentence. — xaosflux Talk 10:03, 27 August 2021 (UTC)
- Suffusion of Yellow, okay, "Make a suggestion or voice a concern." — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 14:30, 27 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Alexis Jazz: That's better than the default, IMO. Not sure it will have an effect, but it won't hurt. Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 23:38, 30 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Alexis Jazz and Suffusion of Yellow: updated to that, not sure it is the best - but certainly seems better than the default! — xaosflux Talk 00:26, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
- How about making it slightly more explicit that suggestions are supposed to be related to article editing? something like "Suggest an edit or voice a concern" or "suggest an improvement or voice a concern"? Also do wikilinks work within this interface page (and are they clickable?) if so including something like "(Help)" at the end of the message might help reduce the number of off-topic comments and address issues with talk page banners not being shown on mobile (the help page would need some modifications to explain the mobile editing experience). 192.76.8.74 (talk) 21:55, 2 September 2021 (UTC)
- I'm fairly sure this doesn't support wikimarkup (@Xaosflux?). ― Qwerfjkltalk 08:09, 3 September 2021 (UTC)
- @Qwerfjkl: This does not support wiki or html markup. This UI is designed to have this text disappear as soon as you interact with the input box. — xaosflux Talk 10:02, 3 September 2021 (UTC)
- "suggest an edit" is linguistically correct but "edit" used as a noun in this sense, while a familiar term for Wikimedians, may be confusing for outsiders. I see no clear improvement in clarity or ambiguity for "suggest an improvement" instead of "make a suggestion". Both of these would be inappropriate on user talk pages, and Mobile-frontend-talk-add-overlay-content-placeholder is used both on article talk and user talk. — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 10:32, 3 September 2021 (UTC)
