Cross section of the Tunnelling shield developed by Marc Isambard Brunel to enable the first tunnel to be cut through the loose material under the Thames in London. The shield serves as a temporary support structure for the tunnel while it is being excavated and lined. Fushimi Inari-taisha (伏見稲荷大社) is a shinto jinja (shrine) dedicated to the spirit Inari, located in Fushimi-ku, Kyoto, Japan. It is especially well known for the thousands of vermilion torii lining the paths on the hill on which the shrine is located. The torii gates are all donations from individuals, families or companies. Photo credit:User:Daderot The Beijing National Aquatics Centre, also known as the Water Cube, is an aquatics centre that is currently being built alongside Beijing National Stadium in the Olympic Green for the 2008 Summer Olympics. Ground was broken on December 24, 2003. The Aquatics Centre will host the swimming, diving, synchronized swimming and water polo events during the Olympics. It will have a capacity of 17,000 during the games that will be reduced to 6,000 afterwards. It also has a total land surface of 65,000 square metres.
